Developers: Oracle
Last Release Date: December, 2011
Technology: OSS/BSS,  Billing systems
  • Billing system

According to test results of performance of Oracle corporation, the billing solution Oracle Communications Billing and Revenue Management (Oracle BRM) executed at the same time on one optimized hardware and software system Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud and three complete racks of Oracle Exadata Database Machine with the Oracle Enterprise Linux operating system is capable to provide the exclusive performance and scalability for the communication service providers aiming to optimize tariffing of services against the background of rapid growth of capacity of networks and volumes of consumption of data.

In this performance test of Oracle used the difficult scenarios of pricing which are really applied by communication service providers in the USA. The test, in particular, measured performance of processes of tariffing of telecommunication services in a broadband network of mobile communication of LTE (Long-Term Evolution) for the following conditions: 100 million subscribers; 5 thousand different tariff plans; existence of accounts of the invited relatives and friends with separation of discounts; system of providing discounts; existence of the multiservice tariff plans including services of a voice communication, data transmission and sending the SMS; combination of different categories of accounts (70% of personal accounts of individuals, 15% of large corporate clients and 15% of retail clients); the simultaneous activity of representatives of subscription service imitating real transactions.

The solution Oracle Communications Billing and Revenue Management provided processing speed in 926 million "the unified records about the rated event" (Event Detail Records, EDRs) per hour that exceeds the predicted expectations of communication service providers almost twice and considerably exceeds their requirements to data processing in LTE networks, emphasized in Oracle. In other words, at extrapolation of test results they mean that if all 7 billion people on Earth did phone calls, sent the SMS or loaded content, then the Oracle application of Communications Billing and Revenue Management working at the Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud and Oracle Exadata Database Machine platforms could process all transactions in one day, claim in corporation.

"It is really revolutionary results, they show the highest rates of performance ever published in the industries and also capability of our integrated hardware-software solution to correspond to the growing billing requirements of service providers against the background of growth of capacity of mobile networks and volumes of consumption of data as a result of distribution of network technologies of new generation", – Bhaskar Gorti, the senior vice president and the CEO of division of Oracle Communications noted.

Performance test of 100 Million Subscriber LTE Performance Test also showed linear scalability at increase in a subscriber base in terms of service of applications and almost linear scalability for cluster version of the database. In particular, when resources of the mechanism of tariffing of the application server were increased from one to nine flows for simulation of the increased use of service, and database resources – with one to three racks of Oracle Exadata Database Machine, performance in proportion grew, having shown linear and almost linear scalability respectively, reported in Oracle.

According to corporation, the test was executed within more than four hours without uniform error, having proved stability of performance measures.
