The Oracle corporation announced the solution Oracle Exadata Storage Expansion Rack which allows to add to the database machine Oracle Exadata Database Machine high-end servers of storage cost-efficient in July, 2011. The solution is intended for storage of considerable volumes of the structured and unstructured data, including relational data for preceding periods, backup copies of Oracle Exadata Database Machine, blogs, documents, images, big objects (LOB) and XML files.
Oracle Exadata Storage Expansion Rack has the built-in means of full redundancy for support of the major applications, including reserve connection of InfiniBand with capacity of 40 Gbps. In addition each server includes disks, power sources and fans with a possibility of replacement in an operating mode for ensuring high readiness.
The solution Oracle Exadata Storage Expansion Rack supports all range of functions of the software of Oracle Exadata Storage and is offered in three configurations:
- complete rack — 18 Oracle Exadata Storage Server servers including up to 6.75 Tb a cache memory of Oracle Exadata Smart Flash Cache, 432 Tb of not marked disk space and 216 main cores for processing of SQL queries in a storage subsystem;
- a half of a rack — 9 Oracle Exadata Storage Server servers including up to 3.4 Tb a cache memory of Oracle Exadata Smart Flash Cache, 216 Tb of not marked disk space and 108 main cores for processing of SQL queries in a storage subsystem;
- a quarter of a rack — 4 Oracle Exadata Storage Server servers including up to 1.5 Tb a cache memory of Oracle Exadata Smart Flash Cache, 96 Tb of not marked disk space and 48 main cores for processing of SQL queries in a storage subsystem.
All three Oracle Exadata Storage Expansion Rack configurations are delivered with the disks High Capacity SAS with a capacity of 2 Tb and a cache memory of Oracle Exadata Smart Flash Cache, available in Oracle Exadata Database Machine.
To eight racks of Oracle Exadata Database Machine and Oracle Exadata Storage Expansion Rack it is possible to integrate in the general storage system with a capacity of not marked disk space up to 3360 of Tb simple connection of the InfiniBand cables. More large-scale configurations are unrolled using additional switches.
