2017: Utilities Network Management System 2.3

On February 10, 2017 Oracle provided release of the version of Utilities Network Management System 2.3.

The platform of management of Utilities Network Management System networks allows the electric grid companies to execute transition to customer-oriented power network. The product gives to managers opportunities for condition monitoring of all network and linear assets in real time, fixes the problems connected with separation of network power data and applications.

Utilities Network Management System 2.3 allows the network companies to aggregate information on different network assets in the single interface with more detailed display of functioning of network. For the first time the network companies obtain information on network assets – bidirectional information on the distributed power sources (Distributed Energy Resource, DER), information on infrastructure of intellectual accounting (Advanced Metering Infrastructure, AMI), data of management systems for distribution of flows of power in networks (Distribution Management System, DMS) and data of management systems for emergency shutdowns (Outage Management System, OMS) — in the form of the single interface for more informative analysis and acceptance of reasoned decisions[1].

The product includes possibilities of monitoring for tracking of state change of networks and reaction – whether it be growth of number of electric vehicles in the urban area and, as a result, need of upgrade of transformers, or more rapid response for cases of emergency shutdown of supply of electricity at adverse weather conditions or at emergence of gas leaks.

As a part of the changed functions of the industry platform – the user interface compatible to all applications. The mobile interface allows managers to communicate and interact quickly with mobile repair crews to accelerate troubleshooting. The platform contains the additional safety features warning managers about the dangerous works on a distribution network caused by the distributed power sources.

In this version condition monitoring of a distribution network using infrastructure of intellectual accounting, distributed sensors, a geographic information system (GIS), dispatching system and data collection (SCADA), sensors of tracking weather conditions and other terminal units on a single platform is provided; opportunities for improvement of indicators of reliability, in particular indexes of average duration of interruption of power supply of the consumer (Customer Average Interruption Duration Index, CAIDI) and the average duration of interruptions in system operation (System Average Interruption Duration Index, SAIDI) – even in development of networks; expense reduction on power supply recovery, giving the chance to managers and to mobile repair crews to interact in real time by means of mobile application quickly to eliminate faults, support for operators of networks of gas supply, water supply and power supply.

The most successful network companies will actively use customer-oriented networks and have strategic vision of how modern technologies can be supported them. At the first transitional stage, within several decades, the network companies invested billions of dollars in creation of infrastructure. Then, with the advent of sensors and the SCADA systems, we obtained more exact data and a possibility of monitoring at any moment. Now we live in a century of predictive analytics, numerous new data streams from terminal units and more difficult switchings in real time. We consider our solution for management of networks as the platform which manages all aspects of power network – from the living room of the consumer to a back office of the network company.

Oracle Utilities Network Management System supports possibilities of assessment of damage and management during the periods of adverse weather conditions:

  • determination of estimated time of recovery, for more exact informing clients,
  • opportunities for the manager of network in the course of preparation of a system of power supply for disconnection on the basis of again data retrieveds from the GIS, SCADA, AMI systems and the systems of tracking weather conditions,
  • the abilities to manage distribution networks increasing quality of functions of localization of malfunctions, overloads/shutdowns of loading and profiling of loading.

2014: Utilities Network Management System

Utilities Network Management System is a management system for networks in the field of a housing-and-municipal complex.

On January 24, 2014 the Oracle corporation announced a release of the new version of Oracle Utilities Network Management System 1.12.

A system helps the enterprises of power and housing and public utilities to increase efficiency of transactions and business processes, both in command center, and on places.

As a part of industry solution of Oracle Utilities Network Management System the new modules assisting the enterprises of the industry in acceleration of the problem resolution with service and obtaining necessary information for optimization of infrastructure, support of customers, increase in efficiency of mobile teams.

List of components:

  • Network Management Training Simulator - for creation of libraries of scenarios of training which can be reused and modified taking into account changes. This component makes available to users of command center necessary means for work with a system, helps to increase the level of its security, reliability and efficiency.

  • Conservation Voltage Reduction - gives the chance to the enterprises of the industry, to customers to save energy by means of automatic voltage optimization of electricity given to consumers, especially to the periods of the maximum load. It gives essential advantages on economy of costs for sources of generation of the electric power.

  • Enhanced Damage Assessment - helps field assessment specialists to fix information - to photograph the damaged equipment. In particular, during a strong sleet or a blizzard, the enterprises of power and housing and public utilities before directing a repair crew, can send to the place of accident of specialists for evaluating and determination of the exact place of damages by means of photos and services of a geolocation. It increases effectiveness of reaction of repair crews and provides more exact time estimate of recovery of the services provided to consumers.
