2021: The announcement of Origin Pilot - the operating system for quantum computers
In the middle of February, 2021 the Chinese company Origin Quantum announced development of the operating system for quantum computers. This product, according to his creators, is capable to increase several times efficiency of nowadays existing quantum computing systems.
The solution was received by the name Origin Pilot. The Origin Quantum company which developed it functions at the leading laboratory on quantum information science of Academy of Sciences of the People's Republic of China in the city of Hefei. The company said that new OS sharply increased efficiency of quantum computings at side-by-side execution of tasks, it is capable to calibrate automatically quantum chips and to manage quantum resources.
As Origin Quantum creates the quantum systems on superconducting qubits and on spin qubits, the Origin Pilot operating system supports each of platforms and is compatible to "set" of other versions of quantum calculators. Developers intend to use the new operating system on a cloud platform of quantum computings to make it available to users worldwide.
Experts disagree concerning whether the software of the quantum systems is comparable to a common understanding of the operating systems used in everyday life and whether it is possible to create the effective operating system, without having the corresponding equipment on which it can be used. Professor of physics of the Hong Kong university of science and technologies and the expert in the field of quantum computings Zeng Beng claims that, despite improvement of user interfaces of quantum computers, the necessary equipment still "strongly lags behind the software", and therefore "speak about operational [systems] or software so far early".[1]
