2017: Emergence in the market
In May, 2017 the Medtronic company announced an output to the market of a system of radio-frequency ablation OsteoCool which is used for the cancer therapy spreading to a backbone. In the device the advanced water cooling system is implemented.
Radio-frequency ablation — the treatment method relating to discharge of interstitial thermotherapy. Differs from other methods of the RF influence in ease of execution, good tolerance, small quantity of complications, good survival of patients to which radical surgical treatment is not shown.
Important feature of a new system became control of work on the basis of temperature and function of cooling of an electrode. With its help the device can quickly work with large volumes of tumoral fabric. Thanks to cooling of an electrode its tip is not heated, and there is no carbonization of fabrics about a needle. Koagulirovanny fabric is not overdried and does not burn on a needle. The absent deposit does not prevent normal carrying out therapeutic radio waves. Besides, cooling of an electrode allows to attach big power on a tumor.
Our therapeutic business deeply took roots in the mission of Medtronic directed to pain relief. We gave to doctors the important tool for treatment which will help the patients suffering from wearisome oncological pains — the senior director of division of recovery therapy in the Canadian representative office of Medtronic Sandrine Moirez notes. |
Medtronic got permission to sale of OsteoCool in Canada. In February, 2017 the equipment was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).[1]
