2024: Recall of 1.12m defective ovens

In early August 2024, Samsung recalled more than 1.1 million ovens sold, which caused 250 fires, resulting in dozens of injuries and the death of at least seven pets.

According to Samsung's statement, the owners and pets accidentally turned on the handles on the front panel, which posed a fire risk if flammable items remained on the stove. Samsung has received more than 300 reports of similar incidents. Between 2013 and 2024, fires associated with these ovens caused significant property damage in 18 cases, and in 8 cases resulted in injuries requiring medical attention.

Two of these incidents resulted in deaths and 31 in non-fatal injuries. Two more incidents that led to the death of people were associated with stoves of an unknown manufacturer.

Samsung's recall noted that the ovens were produced in Thailand and sold in chains of stores, Best Buy Costco, Home Depot, Lowe's and other home appliances stores, as well as online on the Samsung.com website from May 2013 to August 2024 for prices from 1250 to 3050. dollars Owners of recalled ovens are urged to contact Samsung to obtain a set of grip retainers or model-compatible lids. Owners who are unwilling to use restraints are urged to keep children and pets out of the oven.[1]
