2022: Announcement of a prosthetic human ear
In November 2022, it became known about the bionic prosthesis of the human ear developed in Russia with the function of restoring hearing. We are talking about the technology of the Perm National Research Polytechnic University (PNIPU). University specialists worked on the project together with colleagues from Perm State Medical University (PMU) and Moscow State Medical and Dental University.
The prosthesis is made of silicone material. The developers also brought into a single design a fixing system, a microphone, a sound processing unit, a Bluetooth radio channel module, and a vibration emitter.
It is noted that by November 2022, the restoration of function and aesthetics is developing separately from each other. Scientists are working on a bioprosthesis to solve these two problems simultaneously.
To do this, it is necessary to bring directly into a single design an ear prosthesis, a fixing system, a microphone, a sound processing unit based on a specialized digital signal processor with built-in analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters, a Bluetooth radio channel module for wireless control and reception of external audio signals and an emitter of sound vibrations, said Igor Bezukladnikov, Ph.D.
By November 23, 2022, the developed prosthesis is under preclinical testing, in which scientists determine the best and most effective fixation options.
To do this, a test bench was assembled, in which a cubic-shaped polymer reservoir obtained using plastic 3D printing is used as a human head simulator. Sound transmission in this design is quite close in characteristics to human bone tissue.[1]
