The study of developers from Perm Polytechnic will increase the strength of metal products by more than 30%. Strengthening responsible structures will help the complex of a tool and a special program that will select the optimal surface treatment modes. Development can be used in the field of mechanical engineering and aircraft engineering. This was announced by Politech on September 30, 2021.

The main reason why industrial products are destroyed is their insufficient fatigue strength, that is, the material deforms over time under the influence of loads. To improve their performance, chemical and mechanothermal treatment methods are used, but this is a long, expensive and not always effective process. Our development is based on another method - rolling the surface with a ball or roller, which are pressed into the surface of the part with a certain force, "said the author of the development, graduate student of the Department of Dynamics and Strength of Machines of Perm Polytechnic Alexei Shiryaev.

XStress 3000 G3 robotic X-ray diffractometry complex

According to researchers, this method will significantly improve the surface quality of industrial products. Scientists created a prototype of the device and tested it in experimental conditions. The developers conducted tests at the Center for High-Tech Machine-Building Industries on an instrument manufactured at Perm Polytechnic and its foreign counterpart - the hydrostatic device HG6-9_-SL (K). The experiment showed that the mechanical characteristics of the surface layer of the samples in both cases were increased by 25-33%. At the same time, the cost of domestic development is 2 times lower than the foreign counterpart.

An important quality of our development is the more profitable cost of manufacturing and operating tools and replaceable elements. The average price of foreign equipment is 1 million rubles. At the same time, after 8-10 hours of operation, the tool requires a complete replacement of the rolling element, unlike our device. This ensures the competitiveness of development in the global machine building market, "explained Alexey Shiryaev.

According to the researchers, the selection of optimal modes of hardening of parts is carried out experimentally. This increases the cost of the finished product. In the immediate plans of scientists - the development of an automatic lubrication system, special equipment and software. It will allow the processing of complex surfaces on various types of machines, including with numerical software control. The researchers also create a database that will allow you to choose the mode of processing parts from different metals and alloys and optimize it.

One of the aircraft companies in Russia has already shown interest in the innovation complex.
