2020: Start of sales of the transparent OLED display 3.8 mm thick
On November 20, 2020 Panasonic announced entry into the commercial market of the transparent OLED display of 55 inches in size on diagonal. Its sales will begin in December at the price which the producer did not begin to disclose.
According to developers, the TP-55ZT110 screen reminds the transparent sheet. Its thickness is 3.8 mm — the truth, it belongs to modification without dimmer who regulates a transmission coefficient of light and can switch the screen between "The transparency mode" and "The mode black". The option without dimmer is slightly thicker — 7.6 mm.
In the "black" mode the dimmer reduces an amount of light, passing through a panel from back face, doing the output image well visible even in brightly lit premises – with a high contrast and the deep levels black, without the disturbing reflections or flares, it is specified in the press release.
In the same place it is said that all parts and elements in the display module are fastened in a vacuum to minimize reflection loss and to increase transparency. Organic light-emitting diodes do not need additional illumination and can display bright hi-res pictures with wide angle of the overview. At the same time the panel allows to see the objects located behind it that allows to use it in design of spaces.
The display can be used, for example, on commercial objects (shopping complexes, etc.), for advertizing on transport and in social infrastructure. Besides, panels can integrate for demonstration of large images. The transparent panel can be used as the digital sign (infopanela) and also for display of images in big space, for example, in a show-window.
At first TP-55ZT110 can be purchased in Japan and other countries of the Pacific Rim. Terms of emergence of a product in the Russian market in November 23, 2020 are unknown.[1]
