Parallels Server Bare Metal 5.0

On September 26, 2011 the Parallels company announced a release of the new version of Parallels Server Bare Metal 5.0. This server platform - the only thing in the market the solution which combines advantages of container and gipervizorny technologies of virtualization. The new version of the server platform is optimized under tasks of hosters and service providers. It provides stability of work of virtual environments, flexibility of configuring and decrease in operating costs of deployment and support.

Technically PSBM 5.0 represents two solutions in one product. On the one hand, it is a hypervisor of Parallels which provides excellent isolation of virtual environments at the level of "iron". With another are the containers Parallels Virtuozzo Containers for Linux which strength – the highest density of virtual environments on the server. Thanks to such combination service providers can offer clients different types of services from one server, is more effective dispose of the available server capacities and reduce temporary and operating costs by administration of the virtualized infrastructure.

A number of new opportunities which do a product more adapted for solving of tasks of hosting and cloud providers is added to functionality of Parallels Server Bare Metal 5.0:

• faster and stable kernel of Linux 2.6.32 which maintains bigger amount of modern "iron"
• limits of resource consumption of the processor are exposed with a high accuracy
• settings of limits for an input-output subsystem
• expanded options of management of consumption of RAM of virtual environments
• "live migration" (without interruption of operation of virtual machines)
• converting of the virtual environments created using software from other vendors
• an opportunity to add the virtual processor or to increase the amount of RAM of virtual environment without its restart
• integration of PSBM 5.0 into the solution Parallels Automation for Cloud Infrastructure

Besides, the fifth version of PSBM allows to create virtual machines with number of processors to 16 and with amount of RAM to 64 GB.
