2020: The announcement of the application for control of neuromodulators by means of the smartphone
At the end of July, 2020 Abbott submitted the Patient Controller application for iPhone using which it is possible to manage neuromodulators - devices for treatment of chronic pain or motive frustration. The application eliminates need for the separate device for programming, thereby optimizing experience of the patient and integrating management of therapy into everyday life.
The need for the similar application became obvious during a pandemic when patients with chronic neurologic frustration were cut off from doctors. However and out of a pandemic similar technologies can be useful to many patients who are regularly incapable to visit the doctor or prefer not to leave the house.
Digital options of management of therapy which will allow them to interact actively with suppliers of medical services are required for patients and to remotely control treatment of chronic diseases, - the vice president of Abbott for neuromodulation Keith Boettiger noted. - Considering the growing demand for new technologies, Abbott begins to develop actively the field of digital health care, including in the field of the technologies of neuromodulation focused on the patient. |
Abbott claims that the application will be integrated into larger platform of management of medical care of NeuroSphere Digital Care which became available in May, 2020. Other systems, compatible to the platform, and applications include neuromodulation technologies, such as Abbott Infinity DBS system, Proclaim XR SCS system and system of neurostimulation Proclaim DRG. Such integration will allow doctors to consider individual needs of each patient, developers consider. The company also announced that the application with the personalized access to therapy will become available to patients until the end of summer.[1][2]
