2024: Product Announcement
On October 17, 2024, Open Mobile Platform (a subsidiary of Rostelecom) presented the first payment terminal running the Russian Aurora operating system. The device has a certificate for working with biometric data.
It is noted that as of October 2024, Aurora is the only sovereign Russian alternative to such foreign mobile platforms as Android and iOS. Aurora is used by large domestic companies, among which are Rostelecom and VTB, as well as state bodies such as the State Duma and the Federation Council. It is assumed that the emergence of a payment terminal with Aurora will help in the formation of a trusted mobile environment in government organizations and financial institutions that have increased requirements for the protection of sensitive information, convenience of work and compatibility with corporate services.
Outwardly, the novelty resembles payment terminals that Sberbank massively installs throughout the country. The Aurora OS device is equipped with a touchscreen display, above which the camera is located: with its help, an image of the user's face can be obtained. The terminal is said to replace Android devices and increase the confidence and reliability of the financial infrastructure through which Russian payments pass.
In addition, the terminal can be used within the framework of the concept of bioequiring (payment by person), and certification of the Aurora OS allows you to comply with all regulatory rules. Bioequiring is a joint project of the Center for Biometric Technologies and the National Payment Card System. With the help of the accompanying Aurora SDK, developers, as noted, will be able to create additional applications for the platform.[1]
