2021: Launch of production of the first production vehicle with hydrogen fuel
In mid-December 2021, Peugeot announced that it had launched the production of the first production car LCV segment on a hydrogen basis. For Peugeot e-Expert Hydrogen, the company's engineers used a non-standard arrangement of hydrogen elements, as it is reported, not only the engine compartment was used for this, but also a separate container was created under the bottom.
Tightening environmental standards leaves no choice for automakers, forcing them to work on the development of alternative power plants. In September 2021, Peugeot presented to the public its first minivan, which runs on hydrogen fuel, and in mid-December 2021 mass production started.
This car is the only model of three confirmed for sale in the UK, and models with the right wheel should appear in early 2023. However, a representative of Peugeot said that it is planned to conduct tests with key British business customers to find out whether this technology can be used in the UK.
Peugeot e-Expert Hydrogen uses a 10 kVt⋅ch battery to power the electric motor and provides a range of up to 400 km. The maximum speed is 130 km per hour, and full refueling takes three minutes. The maximum carrying capacity is one ton, and the trunk volume is no less than that of diesel counterparts. The car will be produced at the Stellantis Hydrogen Research and Development Center in Rüsselsheim, Germany.
By releasing the e-Expert Hydrogen, Peugeot is taking the lead in creating a zero-emission future technology that is particularly relevant to the light commercial vehicle market. Hydrogen-electric technology provides intensive daily use without the need for recharging - a decisive advantage for professionals who have to travel several hundred kilometers along the highway in one day, and then enter urban areas with emission restrictions. The hydrogen technology developed by Stellantis and implemented in our Peugeot e-Expert Hydrogen makes such use possible, said Peugeot CEO Linda Jackson. |
The representative of Peugeot added that the appearance of the first hydrogen car was the last step in the development of an expanded choice strategy, allowing customers to choose from a number of power units the one that best meets their needs. On December 15, 2021, there are no plans to produce fuel cell vehicles, the brand has focused on commercial vehicles. The first client of e-Expert Hydrogen was Watea by Michelin, a subsidiary of Michelin, which specializes in green mobility solutions.[1]
