2025: Increase Photon Computer Accuracy to 97.86%
Samara Korolev University has achieved a photon computer accuracy of 97.86%, creating a system capable of processing video data hundreds of times faster than modern digital neural networks. This was reported at the university at the end of January 2025.
According to the developers, the recognition accuracy of the first version of the computer was 93.75%. Thanks to additional component adjustment, scientists managed to approach a theoretical maximum of 98.04%.
Professor of the Department of Technical Cybernetics of the University, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Roman Skidanov noted that the experiments will continue, and the installation will undergo modernization with the update of some components.
This year we plan to start assembling a prototype photon computer, it will be created on the basis of an experimental sample after a number of upgrades and will be pre-production, - said Roman Skidanov. |
The development will allow you to quickly analyze data obtained using hyperspectrometers - devices for detecting objects that are invisible to conventional surveillance tools.
The project of creating an analog photon computing system is being implemented within the framework of the scientific program of the National Center for Physics and Mathematics with funding from the Ministry of Science and Higher formations Russia Education and the State Corporation Rosatom"."
In laboratory conditions, it was possible to achieve maximum recognition accuracy, although in real operating conditions the indicators may be lower. Nevertheless, the achieved accuracy is recognized as sufficient for the successful operation of the system.
The creation of a pre-production sample of a photon computer will be the next stage in the development of a project aimed at introducing new data processing technologies in Russia.[1]
2024: Product Announcement
An experimental sample of a photonic computer capable of processing video data hundreds of times faster than traditional neural networks based on semiconductor computers was created in Russia. This became known in August 2024. The development was carried out by scientists from Samara Korolev University, and it is already ready for the first tests.
According to TASS, the assembly of the device is completed, and now it is necessary to configure, calibrate and adjust all systems. An experimental photon computer is a compact device that does not exceed the standard computer system unit in size. device is designed for processing video stream in real time with instant recognition and classification of specified objects and images. The first series of experiments with the new computer is scheduled for autumn 2024.
The photon calculator has the unique ability to process hyperspectral data - a key feature of the device, as noted by Roman Skidanov, professor at the Department of Technical Cybernetics at Samara University. Hyperspectral data representing each pixel of the image as a spectrum allows the detection of objects invisible to other means of observation. Due to the high speed of information processing close to the speed of light, the new calculator will be able to quickly and efficiently analyze large amounts of data.
In addition to speed, analog optical computing systems, which include the new photon computer, are characterized by resistance to electromagnetic interference, low power consumption and the ability to parallel data processing. The first version of the device, assembled in 2023, showed recognition accuracy at 93.75%. The new model, assembled in August 2024, uses a diode-type laser, which scientists say should improve the accuracy of image recognition.
