On September 10, 2019 the Polaroid Originals company provided the printer for printing of photos from the smartphone. The main difference of the device from the competing solutions in the market is that Polaroid Lab (the new product so is called) scans the screen of phone and prints what is represented there.
The producer calls the device "the miniature dark room" in which chemical processes for creation of images are used. However, operation of the device requires installation of mobile application Polaroid Originals in which users can edit the image, changing exposure or changing colors.
To print the photo, it is necessary to select the photo from gallery of phone and to locate a tube on the scanner the display down. After clicking of the button the printer projects the picture on a film and instant prints it, using the systems of mirrors, light and "100% of chemistry".
Polaroid Lab is loaded via the Micro USB connector. According to developers, the total charge of the rechargeable battery will last for a month of independent operation. However, in Polaroid do not specify how many photos the printer during this time is capable to print.
The beginning of sales of Polaroid Lab is planned for October 10, 2019. The cost of a product will be $130. The printer supports iPhone with iOS 11 and later versions of the operating system and also the device on Android (7.0 and above).
Polaroid Lab represents upgraded version of the Instant Lab printer from Impossible Project company announced in 2012. Afterwards this company was renamed into Polaroid Originals and focused on development of retrocameras, printers and films for an instant photo printing.
obozrevatel of The Verge tested Polaroid Lab and noted difficulties in work with the device. First, for photo printing in high quality it is necessary to look for the correct position for placement of phone on the printer scanner. Secondly, the received pictures at the exit become not such colourful and detailed, as in the original.[1]
