Prisma Health и Ethicon: VESper Ventilator Expansion Splitter

2020: Development of the additional device for medical ventilators

The Prisma Health company announced on April 6, 2020 cooperation with the Ethicon Inc. company entering into division of products of medical appointment and the equipment of Johnson & Johnson company on development and distribution of the additional device for medical ventilators (IVL) - VESper Ventilator Expansion Splitter. It became known on April 20, 2020.

The VESper Ventilator Expansion Splitter device intended only for the emergency use allows to equip the ventilator with a special splitter so that one ventilator could be used for support of ventilation of the easy two patients who are on treatment and having chance of recovery. Similar devices can be used during a pandemic of a koronavirusny infection of COVID-19 until individual ventilators do not become available to patients.

Due to the predicted acute shortage of ventilators the Prisma Health company got permission to the emergency use of this device (Emergency Use Authorization – EUA) from Management on control of quality of foodstuff and medicines of the USA (FDA) in response to urgent need in increase in number of ventilators. Production of splitters will be implemented in 3D technology - printing.

Initial distribution of the device will be limited to the territory of the USA, but joint work of Prisma Health and Ethicon companies will continue to develop strategy according to the solution of different regulatory questions for providing orders worldwide.
