2022: Chip Announcement
At the end of February 2022, Qualcomm demonstrated the world's first product compatible with Wi-Fi 7 technology. According to the developers, the FastConnect 7800 chip guarantees higher performance and reliability, especially in networks with a large number of devices. Devices connected to the network will discharge by 30-50%, the company said.
FastConnect 7800 provides a peak data rate of 5.8 Gb/s and a delay of less than 2 milliseconds in various devices. However, some representatives of the industry believe that these deadlines can be accelerated. Qualcomm is expected to release the 7800 FastConnect in the second half of 2022, which will allow the chip to be included in commercially available devices that will still benefit from the distribution of Wi-Fi 6 and 6E before Wi-Fi 7 becomes the main one.
By March 2022, Wi-Fi 7 is the latest generation of wireless Internet technologies. However, standardization is still at an early stage, and the World Broadband Alliance (WBA) expects the first Wi-Fi 7 devices to appear no earlier than 2025.
The FastConnect 7800 chip provides high rates of speed and a delay thanks to technology under the name High Band Simultaneous (HBS) multi-link which at the same time uses the ranges of 5 GHz and 6 GHz. At the same time, the 2.4 GHz band, which is usually more overloaded, is reserved for the use of Bluetooth.
Bluetooth's power consumption, range, and interfacing speed are enhanced by Dual Bluetooth technology, which, in conjunction with Snapdragon Sound Technology, should provide excellent sound for any device based on this chip. The delay will decrease and the network capacity will increase due to the channel bandwidth doubling to 320 MHz.
Introducing the industry's first Wi-Fi 7 solution may be enough for some, but with the introduction of HBS Multi-Link, we take performance to the next level, destroying expectations for speed and latency. Combined with 50% reduced power consumption and intelligent dual Bluetooth with the advanced capabilities of Snapdragon Sound, FastConnect 7800 is simply the best customer connection offer in the industry, "said Dino Bekis, Vice President and General Manager of Mobile Computing and Connections at Qualcomm[1] |
