The RSK group, the developer and integrator of the innovative solutions for a segment of high-performance computing (HPC) and the data processing centers (DPC), showed in November, 2013 at the international exhibition SC'13 in Denver (USA) the superdense solution RSC PetaStream with direct liquid cooling, having set a world record of computing density in 1 PFLOPS on one rack at the occupied space only 1 sq.m most, by 5 times earlier shown RSK this year a record based on the supercomputer architecture of "RSK of the Tornado" with an indicator 211 TFLOPS on a rack is exceeded. One rack of RSC PetaStream consists of 1024 computing nodes and provides branch more than 400 kW of thermal power. It is 4 times higher than the previous achievement of RSK and is a new world record of power density.

The solution RSC PetaStream is the innovation implementation of massive and parallel architecture using the best of available industrial a component, the large-scale integration level and the unique system architecture for high-performance computing developed by specialists of RSK. Each node of a system is constructed based on the 60-core Intel® Xeon Phi™ 5120D coprocessor from 8 GB of high-speed memory of DDR5. All 1024 computing nodes are integrated among themselves by high-speed connections based on Infiniband FDR technology, providing the revolutionary superdense high-performance solution about more than 250000 flows in one rack based on architecture of x86. It allowed to make considerable breakthrough in the direction of creation of the supercomputers of ekzaflopny range capable to provide millions of performed computing flows in one application forward. Already today, having such solution as RSC PetaStream at the order, users and developers will be able to develop and optimize applications for work on future systems with massive and parallel architecture and new multi-core processors.

The solution RSC PetaStream on the basis of architecture of x86 which is de facto the industrial standard around the world provides protection of investments on development and optimization of software. During creation of new software developers will be able to apply the existing programming models to future computing systems, actually having an opportunity of start of already existing applications on supercomputers of ekzaflopny range. At the same time, the flexibility of architecture of RSC PetaStream allows to test the innovation programming models which can be more effective for ekzaflopny calculations.

For ensuring the maximum packing density, high capacity of input-output and also reliability of calculations and controllability, several RSC PetaStream nodes are grouped in one module providing to nodes liquid cooling, highly effective power supply and conversion of the electric power and also a possibility of aggregation of nodes in a rack. The module RSC PetaStream integrates up to eight nodes with Intel® Xeon Phi™, an input-output subsystem, the including server board of Intel® S1600JP with the Intel® Xeon® E5-2600 v2 processor, to five solid-state disks Intel® SSD of S3500 or S3700 series, and network adapters, such as Mellanox Connect-IB or host adapters of Intel® True Scale.

In addition to 1024 computing nodes on the basis of Intel® Xeon Phi™, in each rack RSC PetaStream can be installed up to 640 solid state drives. Control of them is exercised using the scalable file system that guarantees a large number of transactions of input-output per second and provides efficiency of a set of cores in a system and also scalability of a local part of the file system of storage. When using the solid-state disks Intel® SSD of DC S3700 series or DC S3500 with a capacity of 800 GB the cumulative capacity of local file storage of nodes in a rack reaches 0.5 PB with a system performance of 1 PFLOPS. Use of solid state drives of Intel of DC S3500 series and DC S3700 is caused by high requirements to fault tolerance and resource intensity of storage system. These drives are the standard de facto in the industry, providing the high performance and the guaranteed lifecycle within 5 years at 10-fold daily rewriting and also low response time and a high rate of quality of service of request processing of QoS.

The solution of RSK provides to customers big flexibility of the choice of types of interconnect at the expense of a connectivity of different expansion cards and also a possibility of the choice of topology of the created network and wide options for creation of the innovation storage systems as a part of a supercomputer complex. The basic module RSC PetaStream is equipped with two slots of PCIe Gen3 x16 for connection of standard and non-standard cards of communication interfaces that provides 4 Infiniband FDR or QDR ports, in addition to the integrated 4 Gigabit-Ethernet ports. Each module provides high capacity in the external network exceeding 200 Gbit / c in case of use of the two-port Mellanox Connect-IB adapter.
