2023: Stroller announcement
At the end of September 2023, a unique wheelchair called Revolve Air went on sale. Thanks to a special transformable design, the novelty folds into hand luggage during air travel, and therefore it does not need to be checked into luggage.
The designer of the chair is Italian designer Andrea Mocellin. A key element of the design is Revolve's signature folding mechanism wheels. Each wheel consists of six sections connected by a metal frame. Instead of spokes, six folding aluminum elements are used. Aluminium rim is divided into six interconnected sections furnished with tubeless tire segments. The diameter of the wheels is 24 inches.
The locking mechanism in the hub securely holds all elements in the shape of a conventional wheel during use. When it is necessary to fold the wheels, it is enough to release the lock: as a result, the sides of the hub are pushed apart, and the sections of the rim and spoke are folded like the ribs of the umbrella.
Revolve Air's tubular aluminum frame also folds, essentially serving as a case for two folded wheels. In this configuration, the size of the wheelchair is reduced by 60%, which allows it to be placed in the cabin compartment on the plane. The chair weighs approximately 10.8 kg.
It is noted that usually low-mobility passengers are forced to take their seat in their luggage, which means that it can be lost or damaged. To land and leave the aircraft, you have to order special seats provided by the airport. Revolve Air stroller allows you to bypass all these difficulties. The cost of new items is approximately $5,000. Revolve folding wheels can also be purchased separately for installation on a third-party wheelchair.[1]
