Riverbed Optimization System 6.1 are used in the products Riverbed for optimization of WAN network, simplifying process of implementation of cloud computing due to their optimization and increase in efficiency of corporate applications. Thanks to improvements in RIOS 6.1. the enterprises find additional flexibility at determination of the most effective approach for optimization of IT resources in public, private or hybrid cloud environments. The RiOS 6.1 operating system includes new expansions for Lotus Notes 8.5 and for different packets from Microsoft, including for Exchange 2010, SharePoint and Microsoft Online for SharePoint and Exchange. At the same time, additional process optimization of disaster recovery is provided in RiOS 6.1: improvement of the protocol of intelligent storage networks provides higher performance, increase scalability and simplify management of the corporate environment using large data processing centers. Thus, Riverbed continues to develop the systems of performance improvement of the most different applications and platforms from almost any solution providers for optimization of WAN.

Optimization of applications in a cloud environment

Quite often at implementation of cloud environments for placement of data and applications, users move away from key business applications more and more, at the same time reducing productivity of work because of the poor performance of applications connected with big cross-network delays and restriction of network transmission capacity of WAN. The RiOS 6.1 operating system considers these restrictions during the work with key business applications, allowing the organizations to increase performance due to transition to cloud environments. RiOS 6.1 optimizes transfer of both the encoded, and not encoded traffic of Exchange Online and accelerates work of SharePoint Online at the application layer, providing the high performance of applications for the organizations using Microsoft Online packet for SharePoint and Exchange.

Additional optimization for Microsoft applications

Before many companies there is a problem of performance improvement of the Microsoft Exchange server in WAN network, at the same time it is necessary to perform difficult and expensive projects on implementation of the Exchange servers at each remote office. The RiOS 6.1 operating system reduces cross-network delays and amount of data by transfer of both the encoded, and not encoded traffic of Exchange 2010, reducing the volume of transmitted data by 95%. Due to these advantages of the enterprise have an opportunity more effectively to transfer Exchange traffic on WAN network, and as result, to consolidate earlier dispersed Exchange servers and to transfer them back to a data processing center. Today many organizations update the software to Exchange 2010, and Riverbed gives an opportunity to involve their existing investments into projects on optimization of WAN due to performance improvement of applications.

In addition to Exchange, one more application, crucial for the enterprises, is Microsoft SharePoint – it allows to increase productivity of the publication of documents and information exchange during the group work. The new improvements optimizing work of SharePoint and fixing problems with performance which remote users face are presented in the version of RiOS 6.1. RiOS 6.1 accelerates transfer of traffic both on network, and at the application layer, allowing to get rid of the unnecessary transfer of packets connected with SharePoint requests for authentication. At the expense of this Steelhead® device ensure even more effective functioning of SharePoint, reduce delays in operation of applications and are capable to reduce response time by 50% in comparison with the mechanisms of acceleration of work of the Internet presented in the previous versions of RiOS.

Performance improvement of Lotus Notes 8.5

In the new version of RiOS the Riverbed company implemented a possibility of optimization and acceleration of transfer of the ciphered traffic of Lotus Notes 8.5 – Riverbed became the first solution provider for optimization of WAN who implemented optimization of traffic for the latest version of Lotus Notes.

Performance improvement of disaster recovery

The companies to which need acceleration of replication of data on WAN the RiOS 6.1 operating system provides additional optimization of storage systems for actions of disaster recovery by reduction of traffic and acceleration of replication of data of data processing between centers.

Optimization of EMC® SRDF®

• Due to optimization of EMC SRDF the customers of Riverbed using storage systems of EMC Symmetrix VMAX™ or Symmetrix DMX™ will be able to achieve reduction of volume of transmitted data.
• The new feature of automatic approval of parameters of a compression for EMC SRDF simplifying management and increasing availability of service is also provided in RiOS 6.1.
• Optimization of FCIP – RiOS 6.1 provides optimization for storage area networks with transfer of FCIP of traffic via the gateways Brocade 7500 and Cisco MDS. Innovations accelerate transfer of FCIP of traffic in and from network both at the level of the protocol, and at the level of network.
