2015: Announced Ricore development of the OpenPower chip
On September 21, 2015 Ricore announced plans for development of own version of the server chip on architecture of IBM OpenPower within the direction selected by the government on import substitution of foreign IT solutions.
The Ricore company intends to conduct development of the OpenPower processor completely at the expense of own means, without attracting investments. On design of this product, by estimation, about two years will leave.
Servers on processor architecture of OpenPower differ in capability to process data bulks quicker in comparison with similar solutions based on x86 chips. At the same time the cost of these servers on different architecture is approximately comparable. OpenPower processors are made on technical process 22 nanometers, can have clock rates from 2.5 to 5 GHz and contain 6 or 12 computing cores.
Ricore entered into consortium IBM OpenPower in June, 2015 thanks to what the company will receive documentation on construction of Power processors, the source codes BIOS and the systems of visualization. This organization also includes such large IT companies as IBM, Samsung, Google and Nvidia.
On September 21, 2015 the vice president of Rikor Boris Ivanov announced that the company is going to begin work on the OpenPower processor in the nearest future.
"We see high interest in the processor of this kind from state structures, the Russian financial and energy companies and also other potential customers for whom the domestic server with the high level of performance is necessary" — Ivanov added.
