Riverbed Interceptor is the solution for platforms with need of implementation of a large number of Steelhead devices at which high capacity of the resulting WAN channel is important.
The Interceptor device can be configured with support of the failover mode for implementation in schemes with high redundancy of components, supports redirection of connections for networks with asymmetric routing.
Setup of the Interceptor device is made using the usual user interface RIOS.
Riverbed Interceptor expands possibilities of Steelhead devices to compliance to requirements big and over big data centers. Working together with Steelhead devices, Interceptor allows to optimize at the same time to one million TCP connections with the general capacity up to 4 Gbps. Riverbed Interceptor supports up to 25 Steelhead devices. Flexible opportunities of configuring allow to implement the system without stopping of network services.

- Partial compatibility with the Steelhead devices working running earlier versions of RIOS.
- To one million simultaneous TCP connections. Riverbed Interceptor supports simultaneous operation of a large number of Steelhead devices, optimizing up to one million TCP connections. The in-path configuration via one interface with installation of 6 Gbps of a trunk ether-channel is supported.
- Up to 12 Gigabit Ethernet ports. Riverbed Interceptor can be configured with support to 12 Gigabit Ethernet ports for ensuring the maximum scalability in networks with asymmetric routing.
- Ether-channel support. Riverbed Interceptor supports ether-channel technology for ensuring necessary bandwidth practically for any structure of network. Different options are supported: one interface of 6 Gbps; interfaces of 4 Gbps and 2 Gbps; 3 interfaces on 2 Gbps everyone.
- Redirection of TCP connections. In large network infrastructures with asymmetric routing the technology of redirection of TCP connections between Riverbed Interceptor devices can be applied to ensuring integrity of connections. Redirection can be organized between a large number of the Interceptor devices (to 20) working in single or failover the modes.
- Management of a cluster in real time. Riverbed Interceptor supports adding and removal of the Steelhead nodes without stopping of network services.
- Support of the failover mode. Riverbed Interceptor can be configured in the failover mode for ensuring continuity of network services in case of hardware failure of the device.
- Status monitoring of connections. For maintenance of integrity of information on the status of Interceptor network controls a status of connections and announces state change to the device deleted with Riverbed.
- Usual user interface RIOS. Interceptor devices are configured through the same GUI and CLI, as well as the Steelhead device. The similar in-path system of rules can be used on Interceptor for a task of types of traffic which will be optimized by group of Steelhead devices.
- Automatic distribution of connections. Riverbed Interceptor supports several algorithms of distribution of connections between Steelhead devices: on the basis of the source IP address, on the basis of the appointment IP address, on the basis of the port of destination, on the basis of VLAN ID. In case of lack of obviously set rules, Interceptor will redirect connection on the Steelhead device which is least loaded at present.
- QoS support. Interceptor "considers and takes into account" all existing QoS of a tag (DSCP, IP precedence) the optimized traffic and guarantees that it high-priority packets the first is reached an appointment point.
