2018: Announcement
At the end of November, 2018 at the AWS Re conference: Invent in Las Vegas the Amazon company announced a cloud service which will help developers to create the software for robots. The solution which is based on infrastructure of Amazon Web Services (AWS) received the name RoboMaker.
RoboMaker represents the platform for creation of software for the robotic systems and is based on a cloud environment of development AWS Cloud9. "previously built worlds" (the room in the house, retail store, the race circuit, etc.) for testing of functions of robots and start of several simulation models at the same time are provided in it several.
RoboMaker functions running the open Robot Operating System (ROS) operating system which, as noted, expands possibilities of AWS services for machine learning, monitoring and analytics. The new solution will allow robots "transfer data, move, communicate, understand and study", reported in the company.[1]
RoboMaker provides cloud expansions for ROS that in a cloud it was possible to work on more resource-intensive computation processes, making room on local resources. Among such expansions:
- Amazon Kinesis Video Streams (processing of video flows);
- Amazon Rekognition (analysis of images and video);
- Amazon Lex (speech recognition);
- Amazon Polly (speech synthesis);
- Amazon CloudWatch (monitoring and maintaining event logs).
Users of RoboMaker will be able to write the code in a cloud, to test it on the simulator with the open code Gazebo, and then to transfer result to the robotic systems, for example, in drones.
As of November 27, 2018 AWS RoboMaker is available to cloud clients of Amazon in some American states and the countries of Europe. Within the next year the geography of presence of service is going to be expanded significantly. For use of the Amazon platform does not levy money — developers pay only for the AWS resources which they use.
