2023: Product Announcement

In early February 2023, Israeli scientists from Tel Aviv University managed to create a robot equipped with a biological sensor. It has a sensitive sense of smell and can be used in the diagnosis of diseases or to detect dangerous substances.

A sniffer robot equipped with a biological sensor that uses antennas - similar to locust antennae - can help diagnose diseases and improve safety control. Biosensors are devices in which a sensitive biological element is associated with a transducer of its response to external influence into a signal that is convenient for registration and processing. Analysis of real objects for 2023 imposes its requirements on the characteristics of sensors, especially on their sensitivity and selectivity. In some cases, continuous continuous monitoring of the analytical signal is required, and therefore, the operational stability of the sensor is important.

Robot sniffer

Locusts have a keen sense of smell that researchers at Tel Aviv University have managed to apply to their biohybrid robot, making it much more sensitive than existing electronic devices. On the four-wheeled robot, the researchers placed an antenna between two electrodes that send electrical signals in response to a close smell. Each smell has its own unique signature, which can be determined by the robot's electronic system using machine learning.

For February 2023, scientists are trying to understand how some animals recognize diseases by smell. The future applications of the technology are virtually limitless, the researchers said: It can be used to detect drugs and explosives and even keep food safe. Ultimately, scientists are trying to create a sniffer robot that can distinguish between odors and determine their location in space.[1]
