2021: Announcement of a tree health device with GLONASS and ultrasound scanner
In mid-October 2021, the Roslesinforg organization, specializing in the integrated solution of forest accounting and forestry tasks in the interests of the state, introduced a device for collecting and processing tree data. It is assumed that the new device will replace obsolete foreign analogues.
The apparatus called Cypress is designed to assess the physiological condition of trees and, according to the developers, allows you to carry out a state inventory of forests at a new technical level. It is equipped with an ultrasonic mechanism that allows you to measure distances in the absence of line of sight, as well as a motion tracker and a camera. The tool determines the diameter and height of the barrel using an optical sensor. Among other functions, Roslesinforg noted the built-in GLONASS, color display, multi-touch panel and Wi-Fi for transmitting tree data "from the forest to the office."
According to Stanislav Fedorov, head of the Roslesinforg State Forest Inventory and Accounting Department, Cypress became the first high-tech device in the world developed for forestry purposes under the law on the digital transformation of the forest complex. The novelties are aimed at the development and decriminalization of the forest industry, he added.
The device is planned to be connected to the federal state information system of the forest complex for monitoring the state of tree plantations in real time.
The first batch of Cypress will enter the branches of Roslesinforg in the near future, the organization said on October 16, 2021. The development of the device is timed to the year of science and technology in Russia. The development of the device has been carried out since 2018 to replace imported equipment purchased more than 10 years ago, the organization added.[1]
