2025: Platform Launch

At the end of November 2025, Rostelecom entered the video game market by launching its own online platform, Rostelecom Games. The new product combines a gaming Marketplace and a launcher for development studios - partners from the gaming industry.

As follows from the statement of Rostelecom, at the start, more than 6 thousand games for PCs and consoles are available in the marketplace catalog. The company promised that the range of games will expand. A special emphasis is placed on safety: all sellers and documents on their content undergo mandatory preliminary moderation.

Rostelecom entered the video game market

Irina Lebedeva, vice president for products of the mass segment of Rostelecom, called the site convenient and safe for Russian developers. According to Lebedeva, Rostelecom Games will be a new incentive for the development of the domestic industry.

Alexander Ryakhovsky, director of the office of promising and partner products of Rostelecom, noted that the gaming marketplace, "which presents only authorized gaming products," was created for an audience of 70 million Russian gamers. He expects that Rostelecom Games will occupy the niche of a "safe distribution channel for high-quality gaming products."

The launch of the gaming platform is a strategic step by a telecommunications company to diversify revenues, said Vladimir Chernov, an analyst at Freedom Finance Global brokerage. He sees an opportunity to monetize the growing audience of gamers through sales, subscriptions and an increase in ARPU (Average Revenue Per User - the average check of one user over a certain period).

According to the analyst, Rostelecom's "strength" is its technological expertise: cloud infrastructure and content delivery networks (CDN) can give it an advantage as a service. Among the key competitors of Rostelecom, Chernov named VK Play, Yandex Games, Ozon Gaming and Buka. In the premium segment, Rostelecom will compete with parallel imports, and in the ecosystem approach - with VK, Chernov suggests.[1]
