2023: Open free access to the database
At the end of May 2023, Sechenov University opened free access to a new database of medical journals and articles RusMed. According to the authors of the new project, in fact, we are talking about the Russian analogue of the largest international base PubMed Central (PMC).
Our idea is to create a new international center for scientific communication. We have a free base open to which everyone can join. Most publishers already work with scientometric bases and can provide their journals in the required format. Almost nothing is required of them - just send this data to RusMed. Loading journals into the database is done automatically, - said Boris Loginov, director of the Central Scientific Medical Library of Sechenov University. |
By May 2023, about 600 medical journals are published in Russia, but the PubMed biomedical research base includes only about 20, which does not allow forming a complete idea of what is happening in Russian science, noted in Sechenov University.
RusMed plans to include all national academic journals by 2025. As of May 24, 2023, more than 4,000 issues of 122 magazines and more than 100 thousand articles were uploaded to the database. The archives of some magazines begin at the end of the 19th century. Access to almost 90% of articles is free. Unlike most Russian databases, RusMed takes into account the maximum amount of metadata and is suitable for systematic analyses or scientometric research.
The university said that the RusMed project by May 2023 is already in high demand, in the future it will cover other countries. They are ready to post their scientific journals in the system,, and Kazakhstan Azerbaijan. Uzbekistan Belarus[1]
