SAP Business ByDesign — on-demand the business application intended for the fast-growing companies of an average segment of the market. It is released in September, 2007. The packet of the SAP solution Business ByDesign includes services and technical support. The solution has a demoversion and major version of the program.
The SAP solution Business ByDesign supplements already existing solutions of SAP Business One, SAP Business All-in-One and SAP Business Suite.
Business ByDesign 2.5
In August, 2010 the version of the Business ByDesign 2.5 system is released. The product offers completely updated analytical mechanism, supports new mobile devices and the expanded mechanism of management of lifecycle of applications. The product is developed for the companies of small and medium business which do not have considerable resources for full-scale implementation of the ERP system at own capacities.
The starting packet includes the financial module, the module of accounting and a business intelligence. Among the main opportunities of Business ByDesign there are a bilateral integration into Microsoft Excel, support of new mobile devices, support in the interface of Microsoft Silverlight technology, new connectors for MS Office. In addition, in the new version new options of technical support from SAP appeared.
SAP Business ByDesign 2.6
The being expected set of means of the developer enters delivery of the new version of SaaS packet Business ByDesign of SAP company long ago. With its help it is possible to create different additions and expansions of a basic system. The company calculates that existence of SDK stimulates development of a partner ecosystem. Also observers hold the same opinion though some of them specify that existence of high-quality building tools is necessary, but yet not sufficient condition of growth of an ecosystem. Fortunately for SAP, preliminary responses of partners say that with new means to work much more simply, than with NetWeaver — the main platform of development of SAP. The new version of Business ByDesign is focused, unlike previous, on use in affiliated enterprises of the large companies. In the beginning in SAP calculated that ByDesign will use in large quantities the enterprises of small and medium business, however so far the packet was purchased by only about 250 clients. By the end of 2011 in SAP hope to finish this digit till 1000.
Feature Pack 2.0
According to the statement of the developer, Feature Pack 2.0 for SAP Business ByDesign expands functionality of the ERP system and provides great value for clients, offering business support of 35 end-to-end scenarios.
The new functionality, according to the statement of the developer, improves decision making process thanks to integration with such systems as Crystal Reports and the Xcelsius panel at the expense of what heads of SMB companies can use expanded analytic functions (BI). Panels contain key indicators of activity, including cash volume, the liquidity management, the sales forecast. Besides, using the configured key indicators heads can control the course of the main business processes.
Feature Pack 2.0 includes also functionality on customer relationship management (CRM), billing automation, resource management and profitability of the project, to purchase management, service and repairs.
According to the developer, the solution also allows to cut down considerably administrative overheads for service companies. Production companies will have an opportunity to trace all supply chain, including suppliers, customers, production and logistics and also can influence strategic purchases.
Enhanced capabilities of the ERP system facilitate possibilities of interaction of the company with the clients, suppliers and partners thanks to integration with Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office. As reported, kompaniismonut to achieve performance improvement due to use of functions of personalisation and also a number of third-party web services which are available in Feature Pack 2.0 now.

2008
In May, 2008 SAP announced changes in plans for promotion of the new Business ByDesign system which should become a crucial element of strategy of "gaining" a segment of medium and small business.
A system was released in September, 2007, and since then was tested by a number of the partners and clients of the company who wished to participate in early testing of the solution. The developer tried to take into account the comments stated to him and wishes, and as a result in the company came to a conclusion about need a little to postpone process of a full-scale output of a system to the market.
So, on the specified plans of the company, in 2008 a system will be available only in six countries participating in its beta testing. A system should come to other countries in 2009. And if earlier the company was going to come to "boundary" of 10,000 clients of Business ByDesign and 1 billion dollars of income from a system in 2010, then now this purpose is postponed approximately for 12-18 months. However, as it is reported, the company intends to use innovations and Business ByDesign technologies for development of existing solutions.
Also SAP recognized that in 2008 the customer base of the new application will make much less planned initially 1,000 companies. With respect thereto, investments into development of Business ByDesign in 2008 will be reduced to 100 million euros, and in 2009 additional investments into development of a new product will not be, and costs for its development will be selected within the general budget of SAP. However in SAP still save confidence in success of the new product and the chosen business model.
2009
In July, 2009 SAP announced ERP system modification release "on demand" for SMB – Feature Pack 2.0 for SAP Business ByDesign. The product was widely announced in 2007, however, in connection with a delay of wide circulation of a system, at this time the company had only 80 clients in six countries where this ERP system was available. The solution was available in China, France, Germany, India, Great Britain, the USA.
According to Rainer Sinou (Rainer Zinow), the vice president for innovations of SAP Business ByDesign, all problems connected with release of this ERP should be solved to 2010 when the solution is ready for all clients who want to purchase it. Leo Apotheker, the co-CEO of SAP, said that in 2009 the client software program for Business ByDesign will be accelerated.
2013
In the fall of 2013 SAP announced curtailment of further work on a cloud solution of ByDesign. And though the German company assured that it will continue to support and to actively advance the solution in full, after all it means that no significant updates of the solution in the future are expected.
According to the representative of SAP Vishal Sikka, critical Business ByDesign update after all will continue to be released, and a command of a product it will be necessary to work for rendering to technical support to users the current version. For October, 2013 the number of clients of ByDesign made 1.1 thousand. At start of the SAP solution intended to connect 10 thousand clients by 2010.
