The name of the base system (platform): | SAP HANA (High Performance Analytic Appliance) |
Developers: | SAP SE |
Date of the premiere of the system: | 2015/09 |
Technology: | BI |
SAP HANA Vora is the solution for distributed computing of in-memory which helps to take information hidden in Big Data. It allows to use the expanded interactive analysis based on Hadoop and corporate data.
Technical features
- The distributed mechanisms of calculations in-memory are mechanisms of processing of relational data, time series, graphs and objects of JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) with specialized algorithms for processing of the corresponding formats of data
- Access through SQL to data of time series, graphs and JSON
- The web interface with the SQL editor, the browser of data and a drag-and-drop feature
- The full integration with the SAP HANA platform provides bilateral data exchange between SAP HANA and Hadoop
- The accelerator of transfer from a disk in memory guarantees high performance even in cases when the size of a data set exceeds amount of memory
- Data security of the corporate level
Features
- Extraction of analytical data from Big Data: an opportunity to make decisions practically in real time on the basis of all complex of data is provided even if they arrive in different formats from different sources.
- Simplification of an IT landscape: an opportunity to reduce complexity due to work with Big Data on the single unified platform with the simple web interface optimum suitable for any option of use is provided.
- Independent calculations based on Big Data: SAP Vora allows users in any role, from business analysts and data specialists to engineers and developers, to use usual tools and programming languages for the fast and effective analysis of huge amounts of data.
2015: Announcement
SAP provided in the fall of 2015 the product HANA Vora intended for the operational analysis of big arrays of the corporate data supplemented with unstructured information from external sources which is loaded into the distributed Apache Hadoop storage and also stream data from sensors and other devices. Say that Vora in the name of a product — derivative of voracious (gluttonous). Possibly, its capability means "mill" huge amounts of data. It will become available to customers at the end of September.
HANA Vora is in-memory the engine for the analysis of Big Data which expands possibilities of Apache Hadoop and significantly increases the processing speed (from 10 to 100 times) due to use of Apache Spark technology. The last allows to transfer, in particular, separate objects from disks to RAM of nodes of a Hadoop-cluster that significantly accelerates the transactions MapReduce preceding data analysis in HANA.
Believe in SAP that HANA Vora will find broad application in those industries where the analysis of Big Data becomes indivisible element of key business processes, in particular, in telecommunications, health care, production and the financial services industry. For example, where, having information on all financial transactions of the client and other historical data, it is necessary to estimate quickly risks and to counteract fraud. One more task — optimization of capacity of telecommunication network on the basis of the revealed patterns of change of traffic intensity. Services of service can plan using new technology of the procedure of preventive support or a withdrawal of defective products, relying on conjoint analysis of service requests, indications of sensors and sheets of the materials and component parts used in a product.
As notes ZDNet, for HANA Vora the selected infrastructure is not necessary: software functions on the same nodes of a cluster where Hadoop and Spark are unrolled. If it is required to integrate functionality of Vora with in-memory HANA DBMS, then the corresponding certified servers are necessary for deployment of the last. Experts believe that success of Vora will depend in many respects on that, how widely the enterprises will apply HANA technology. Meanwhile, by Gartner estimates, by 2020 only 35% of the clients of SAP using its key business applications will pass to HANA.
