2024: Product Announcement

On October 22, 2024, the Research Institute of Communication Technologies of St. Petersburg University of Telecommunications presented an innovative development - the NB-PLC modem for organizing communication channels through electrical networks. The device provides data transmission through the existing electrical wiring of buildings and power lines.

According to the press service of SPbGUT, the modem uses standardized methods of transmitting G3-PLC IEEE 1901.2, which makes it a universal solution for power accounting systems, monitoring the state of facilities, security and fire alarms. The maximum data rate reaches 130 kbps in the full frequency range.

A Russian modem for data transmission through the power grid is presented

The scientific team of developers includes employees of NIITS SPbGUT Vadim Egorov, Dmitry Kopylov and Mark Mendelssohn. According to Dmitry Kopylov, the device is ready for industrial use and provides high flexibility and reliability in operation.

A key advantage of the modem is the ability to select the frequency range depending on the characteristics of the lines used. The device supports various data interfaces, which ensures compatibility with a variety of automation systems. Up to 1000 devices can be connected to the modem in a network configuration.

The development has significant potential for use in energy sales and distribution companies such as Mosenergosbyt and Petroelektrosbyt. The use of a modem allows you to organize reliable and economical data transfer without laying additional cables.

The technology opens up new opportunities to effectively account for and manage a variety of resources, including electricity, water and heat. The development takes on particular relevance in the context of the modernization of existing electrical networks.[1]
