2024: Saga Chapter 2
In mid-January 2024, Solana Mobile announced a new blockchain smartphone for crypto traders - the Saga Chapter 2 device, which replaces the first generation Saga model. The goal of the project, according to the developer, is to make web3 technologies more accessible to users around the world.
The key features of Saga are the built-in crypto wallet, a special software for Android and a crypto application store. The original Saga model, released in 2023, is equipped with an 8 Snapdragon + Gen1 development processor, Qualcomm 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, 512GB flash drive, 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax and 5.2 adapters Bluetooth , a rear fingerprint scanner, a microSD slot and a 4110 mA·ch battery. The 6.67-inch AMOLED display has an FHD + resolution (1080 × 2400 pixels) and a 120Hz refresh rate. At the back is a dual camera with sensors of 50 and 12 million pixels, and the front camera is equipped with a 16-megapixel sensor.
The Saga smartphone was originally offered at a price of $1000, but subsequently the cost decreased due to low sales. In December 2023, the situation changed dramatically: it turned out that several tokens in the Solana network were located on the device's built-in wallet as part of the promotion, including Bonk, which rose many times in price within two months (by December 2023).
Thus, free tokens have repeatedly paid off the cost of the smartphone itself. As a result, all available devices were quickly sold out, and Solana Mobile itself presented the Saga Chapter 2 project. This smartphone is expected to go on sale in the first half of 2025. Its characteristics as of mid-January 2024 were not disclosed, but the price is known - $450.[1]
