2024: Market Entry
At the end of June 2024, a digital colposcope was released in Russia, designed for the early diagnosis of cervical cancer. This device, developed by specialists of Samara State Medical University, has successfully passed clinical trials and is being prepared for serial production.
According to Rossiyskaya Gazeta, the new device has a number of advantages over traditional counterparts. A key feature of the digital colposcope is the high quality image resolution with 32x optical magnification. This allows doctors to more effectively detect precancerous changes in the earliest stages, when it is still possible to prevent the development of cancer.
Clinical experts tested the prototype and got good results, the digital picture is very high quality. |
The developers plan to supplement the device with software based on artificial intelligence. This will allow the colposcope to form a preliminary diagnosis, providing a "second opinion" to help middle-level medical personnel when deciding on the need to refer the patient to an oncologist.
The portability of the new colposcope makes it especially valuable for use in feldsher-midwife stations (FAPs) and visiting teams of doctors. This will significantly expand the possibilities of cancer screening, especially in remote and hard-to-reach areas of the country.
The production of digital colposcopes is planned to be established in the production center of Samara State Medical University, where other innovative medical devices are already being produced.[1]
2023: Colposcope announcement
In mid-May 2023, the Samara State Medical University (SamSMU) announced the creation of a digital portable colposcope for the diagnosis of cervical cancer. According to the developers, the device will expand the coverage of cancer screening for women and detect the disease at an early stage.
The advantages of the technology at SamGMU included innovative imaging algorithms and 32x optical magnification, which provides clear imaging, high-quality image capture with a reliable light source and a magnifying lens to improve cervical imaging.
With the help of a colposcope, you can also track the dynamics of changes in the colposcopic picture. It will provide an integrated function for collecting, storing and securely interacting patient data that reduces unnecessary paperwork and saves time. In addition, the digital colposcope will be able to integrate with the Unified Medical Information Automated System (EMIAS), the press service of SamGMU said.
According to the rector of SamGMU Alexander Kolsanov, the built-in function of collecting, storing and transmitting data using telemedicine services for remote consultation will make it possible to get a second opinion, optimize the routing of a patient with pathologies, and increase the effectiveness of screening. The digital colposcope can also be used to document the results of forensic medical examination.
We plan to include the device in the package of our Health Check-Up telemedicine case. This will make it possible to implement a wider coverage of cancer screening using personal medical assistants. And in the future - to reduce mortality from cervical cancer, - added Kolsanov.[2] |
