2019: Announcement of the smallest sensor of the image

On January 22, 2019 Samsung announced the sensor of the image Isocell Slim 3T2 which calls the smallest in the market. The square chip with the diagonal of only 5.1 mm and 0.8 pixels of micron in size supports resolution of 20 megapixels.

The new camera can be mounted in smartphones both behind, and in front. Depending on arrangement of the device the technology changes. For example, if to use Isocell Slim 3T2 as the front camera, then the sensor is supplied with the corporate Tetracell function. She integrates four pixels in one working block, allowing the module to take brighter and sharp pictures at weak lighting as the photosensitivity of a matrix of a color filter can be enlarged to sensor level of the image with a size of 1.6 pixels of micron at resolution of 5 megapixel.

Placing Isocell Slim 3T2 on the front side of phone, his producer receives the camera with a matrix of a color filter of RGB. Due to this technology sensors of the image Isocell can be used in quality of a telephoto-lens. In comparison with the 13-megapixel sensor 20-megapixel 3T2 saves for 60% higher resolution at a 10-fold digital zoom.

Thanks to the miniature sizes the photosensor can be scarcely noticeable on the smartphone and by that to find application in gadgets with displays in which for the front camera the small opening is cut. Such smartphones by the beginning become 2019 more and more.

Isocell Slim 3T2 is the smallest and most universal 20-megapixel sensor of the image which will help mobile device manufacturers to create competitive advantage not only in respect of camera capacity, but also in characteristics, including hardware design — the marketing vice president of sensors of division of System LSI in Samsung Electronics company Jinhyun Kwon said.

Start of serial production of the Isocell Slim 3T2 model is planned for the first quarter 2019.^[1]

2017: Announcement of the Isocell brand

On June 28, 2017 the Samsung Electronics company provided photosensors and the Isocell brand. The product is branded as Isocell, in honor of the technology of the same name suitable for mobile devices of compact dimensions for which cameras of high resolution are necessary.

The Isocell technology provided in 2013 separates pixel a physical barrier which reduces color noises that allows to improve a color rendition and provides image quality at very small size of pixel^[2].

As a part of Samsung Isocell four sub-brands - Bright, Fast, Slim and Dual:

• Isocell Bright is the high brightness and an image clarity, a color rendition, decrease in noises in low-light-level conditions.
• Isocell Fast is fast autofocusing on motionless and moving objects, including when shooting in the conditions of insufficient illumination.
• Isocell Slim - the smallest of the sizes of pixels (about 0.9-1.0 microns) presented at the market which allow to receive images on thin and compact devices.
• Isocell Dual is a possibility of combination on devices for use of all opportunities and compliance to all requirements to dual cameras.
