2024: Product Announcement
In early April 2024, Western Digital introduced the most capacious SD memory card on the market. The SanDisk Extreme Pro SDUC is capable of storing 4 TB of information.
The novelty complies with the Secure Digital Ultra Capacity (SDUC) standard, which theoretically provides the ability to create drives with a capacity of up to 128 TB. The Ultra High Speed-I (UHS-I) interface is used. It is said to support the speed class 10 (Class 10): this means that the maximum data transfer rate reaches 104 MB/s. At the same time, the card complies with the Video Speed Class V30 standard - the minimum sequential recording speed is 30 MB/s or more. Thus, the novelty is suitable for working with ultra-high resolution 8K video materials.
As of April 2024, Western Digital does not specify which type of NAND flash memory is the basis for the SanDisk Extreme Pro SDUC card. But network sources report that this is BiCS 9 NAND technology. The product is focused on application primarily in high-resolution photo and video cameras. In addition, the new memory card can be used in laptops to expand the built-in storage or create backups of information. The 4TB SanDisk Extreme Pro SDUC will go on sale in 2025.
In addition, Western Digital has announced a number of other SD new products. In particular, the SanDisk Extreme Pro SDXC UHS-I and Disk Extreme Pro microSDXC UHS-I cards with a capacity of 2 TB debuted: sales of these products begin in the summer of 2024. SanDisk Express SD and microSD cards are also presented, designed to store 128 and 256 GB of information: these products will appear on the commercial market in the second or third quarter of 2024.[1]
