2024: Start of production

At the end of February 2024, it became known that Sberbank organized the production of servers for its own data centers (data centers). At the same time, the bank is completing the decommissioning of proprietary software and hardware systems from third-party suppliers.

According to the Vedomosti newspaper, Sberbank's servers are based on AMD and Intel processors with x86 architecture. The equipment is planned to be included in the register of domestic radio electronic products of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The financial organization says that by producing its own servers, the bank not only "solves the problem of technological sovereignty, but also ensures the utilization of production facilities and the creation of new jobs."

The new equipment is adapted for operation in Sberbank's own data centers. This approach optimizes energy consumption and productivity. In addition, servers are designed taking into account the design features of the data center. As of the end of February 2024, we are not talking about the supply of devices to third-party customers.

Market participants note that in the long term it is more profitable for the bank to use customized equipment. The organization of production of own servers can also be associated with the need to meet the requirements for import substitution. Sberbank can use the competencies of Elpitech, which produces universal solutions for data centers, to release its systems. In addition, the capacities of the "KNS groups" in Dubna can be used for these purposes. Maxim Koposov, General Director of Promobit, believes that the development of the server business can contribute to the development of Sberbank's activities related to cloud services or leasing its digital platforms.[1]
