2022: US delivers Boeing drones to Ukraine
As part of the security assistance program USA To Ukraine announced on August 19, 2022 unmanned aerial vehicles , ScanEagle will be provided for the first time, which can be used to detect and target Russian troops and allied forces.
An aircraft designed for reconnaissance, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) with a long service life belongs to group 2 UAS, based on its weight and other characteristics. According to Boeing-owned manufacturer Insitu, the length of the aircraft is about 1.5 meters, and the maximum payload weight is 5 kg. The device can operate at an altitude of up to 5.5 km and can be in the air for more than 18 hours.
ScanEagle can be equipped with various sensors, including electro-optical and infrared cameras, and transmit information to users over encrypted communication channels.
Notably, the drone is "runway-independent" and launched with a dedicated catapult, giving users more flexibility than some of the larger unmanned aerial vehicles developed that require more developed infrastructure to deploy.
According to Pentagon officials, the new $775 million security assistance package approved by the White House includes 15 ScanEagle and a number of other military systems.
As President Biden has made clear, we will support Ukraine in its quest to protect democracy as long as it takes. The United States will continue to work with its allies and partners to provide Ukraine with basic capacity to meet its changing needs on the battlefields, the Defense Department said in a press release.[1] |
