Scratch is an open programming language using which it is possible to program own interactive stories, games and animation and to share the creations with other representatives of Internet community. Skretch helps youth to learn to think creatively, to give systematic justifications and to work jointly. Skretch is a project of the Lifelong Kindergarten group in MIT Media Lab. Wednesday is distributed for free.

2020: Blocking in China

In August, 2020 in China blocked the Scratch programming language which 60 million children use worldwide. The prohibition reason — "a large number of humiliating, false and slanderous content about China", including placement of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan in the revealing list of the countries of the world, reports the state news agency China Internet Information Center.

In the publication it is said that "any service distributing information on the People's Republic of China", should correspond to the local legislation. Found violation therefore the website and a forum of users of the platform were blocked in the country in work of Scratch.

At such platforms as Scratch, a large number of young Chinese users. For this reason the platform should show self-discipline. Assumption of free distribution of the anti-Chinese and separatist expressions will offend feelings of Chinese, will cross border permitted in the People's Republic of China and will poison future generation of Chinese, reported in article of one of youth state editions.

The People's Republic of China blocked a programming language which 60 million children use worldwide

According to preliminary data, by September, 2020 about 5.65% of users of Scratch or about 3 million people are the share of Celestial Empire. The programming language is rather widely used by school students across all China, among them often there take place competitions in writing of programs on Scratch.

If blocking drags on, it can lead to emergence and development of the Chinese alternatives to language. For example, in Shenzhen five years there is Code Mao startup. He developed the Kitten language which is allegedly best of all than Scratch, is available in 21 countries, and more than 30 million people and about 11 thousand organizations use it.

By September, 2020 the code editor of Scratch is translated more than into 50 languages. It can be used without connection to the Internet, and it means that Chinese will be able to use further a product if downloaded it before blocking.[1]
