According to the company, as of March 2021, enterprises generate large amounts of data. According to the Seagate Rethink Data report, these volumes will grow by an average of 42.2% annually in the next two years, and an IDC survey conducted with Seagate shows that enterprise data often moves between different storage systems: endpoints, periphery and cloud. The survey was attended by representatives of more than a thousand enterprises. More than half of respondents confirmed that they need to transfer data every day, every week or every month. On average, 473 TB of data is physically transferred per operation. At the same time, speed is extremely important: the faster data comes from the periphery to the internal networks and then to the cloud, the faster the company can analyze them and apply the results in its business activities.

Our users need to transfer hundreds of terabytes of data from a large number of cars to the data center. This creates a number of problems. Seagate Lyve Data Transfer Services, which offers physical data transfer, solves these problems. This scalable solution has already helped our customers cope with the gravity of data, that is, involving more and more resources in working with data.

We have a remote production project called "The Ripple Effect." The bandwidth of the network we use in it is only 35 Mbps. At this speed, it is very difficult to transmit 4K video footage captured on ARRIS cameras. Therefore, we use Lyve Data Transfer Services to move videos to our cloud data center at the end of each day.

2018: Migrating old archives to the cloud using Tape Ark technologies

On December 10, 2018, Seagate Technology announced the start of a partnership with Tape Ark. Partners provide enterprises around the world with robust and proven technologies to move archive data from tape to the cloud. From now on, valuable inactive data can be restored for further use, returning the possibility of instant access to them. With Tape Ark technology, Seagate Lyve Data Services will move old archives to the cloud, bringing huge amounts of data back to the business environment to provide valuable insights.

According to a study conducted by Tape Ark, as of December 2018, more than a billion tapes are in the archives, while there is no direct access to the information stored on them. Most of this data is at risk of damage and loss, as carriers gradually become unusable. The complete Seagate Technology and Tape Ark solution will restore access to data, some of which was created several decades ago. Now commercial organizations and government agencies will have the opportunity to analyze and actively use large amounts of valuable data in their current work.

Seagate and Tape Ark will give companies from all industries the opportunity to return access to their data and turn the source of overhead into a valuable resource for business. Once loaded into the cloud, the data will be available for analytical applications and, accordingly, for using their hidden potential.
