The R300 and R600 printers, which have expanded Seaory's portfolio of products, use re-transfer sublimation printing technology, which is based on the principle of "reverse thermal transfer." Unlike simple sublimation printing technology, in which the print head transfers the image through the ink ribbon directly to the surface of the card (direct printing principle), the retransfer printer performs printing in two stages. In the first step, the image is transferred to a transparent film. Then, the finished image is transferred from the film to the map surface in one take.
Direct printing on a plastic card limits the possibilities of high-quality photographic reproduction of the image. In addition, the direct printing process requires uniform contact between the printhead, the ink ribbon, and the card surface. In most cases, the surface of the card cannot be perfectly flat, as a result of which stripes and other defects may appear during printing.
The quality of printing by a retransfer printer no longer depends on the stage of mapping. The thin film used provides a uniform pressure distribution during printing. In addition, the retransfer printer optimizes the dye selection to achieve the highest quality regardless of the type of card on which the image will be printed. Thus, retransferential printing provides higher image quality.
Another feature of retransference technology is that the printer can print on maps made of their various materials. For example, high quality printing is provided on smart cards, bank cards, which is often a problem for sublimation printers. In addition, retransfer printers can be used for printing on readily recyclable organic-based cards. Another feature of retransference technology is printing over the entire surface of the map - without fields.
