Inclusion in the register of Russian software
Selectel on December 9, 2025 announced the registration of the SelectOS server operation system in the register of Russian software. The registration record of the Ministry of Ministry of Digital Development of Russia confirms that the system is a domestic development, which expands the possibilities for using the product for Russian customers.
SelectOS includes a large set of server software that is already pre-configured and optimized for operation: web servers, load balancers, database servers, as well as built-in backup systems. The development has been on the market for more than a year, during which time the solution has been deployed in more than 4,500 client infrastructures, and the number of full-fledged system installations is growing by 30% every month. The inclusion of SelectOS in the register makes it available to companies that are subject to special requirements when purchasing software, and makes it possible to receive a number of benefits.
We create a solution that works efficiently with business tasks and has its own build and version control system, which is extremely important for user safety. This allows us not only to supply quality software to the end user, but also to constantly work on improving the user experience. Registration of SelectOS in the register of Russian software further confirms the reliability and quality of the product, strengthening the trust of customers and partners, - said Kirill Dmitriyev, product manager of SelectOS.
Automatic installation on dedicated servers and support for cloud-based startup
Selectel continues to develop SelectOS, an enterprise-class server-based system based on Debian. The updated version of the product, improved to meet the needs of the business, is designed to reduce the burden on IT specialists with convenient management tools, while ensuring security, control and cost optimization. The solution was created for server work with a focus on real business tasks: it optimizes the operation of the infrastructure, and not just offers an alternative to foreign products. Selectel announced this on July 15, 2025.
Since the commercial launch, SelectOS has been downloaded more than 2,000 times, and the number of full installations of the operating system is growing by 30% every month. The team also expanded the functionality of the system - now the solution has the ability to automatically install on dedicated servers and support for launching through the cloud.
In addition, one of the key areas of development of SelectOS was the expansion of the repository of applications adapted for DPDK technology (Data Plane Development Kit - a set of libraries and drivers for fast processing of network packets). This is especially important, for example, for streaming services, where the stability of data transmission and the processing of large streams of information are critical. The solution will allow such companies to reduce data transfer costs by three times, as well as increase the use of a single processor core by up to 120%. Thanks to optimization through DPDK, companies will be able to serve more users without increasing server capacity, while maintaining high quality translation.
We are developing SelectOS as a specialized solution for server tasks, offering customers not a set of disparate tools, but a ready-made optimized platform. Our goal is not just to offer an alternative to foreign software, but to create a system that solves business problems. For most companies, stability and data efficiency are critical - and that's what we're working on. In fact, SelectOS becomes an integral part of the hardware and software complex, where the operating system becomes a key link between equipment and business tasks, "said Kirill Dmitriyev, SelectOS product manager.
2024: SelectOS commercial launch
Selectel, an independent provider of IT infrastructure services in Russia, announced to TAdviser on November 18, 2024 the commercial launch of SelectOS, an enterprise-class server operation system based on Linux. The solution is designed to help customers reduce the burden on IT professionals through management and technical support tools, while ensuring security, control, and cost optimization.
The operating system includes a wide package of pre-configured and optimized server software - web servers, balancers, database servers, built-in backup systems, etc. With its own repository, Selectel can update software and critical system components in a timely manner. Also, customers have the option of adding software packages on demand - the tools will pass all the tests necessary for their integration. Regular monitoring and elimination of vulnerabilities through CVE databases ensures the proper level of security at the operating system level, Selectel said.
The technical feature of the solution is an optimized network stack using kernel bypass technology, which allows, according to the developers, to process data up to five times faster than standard distributions from open source, without increasing infrastructure capacity.
"The operating system has been successfully tested on a large number of (500 +) server configurations, which allows for maximum hardware performance for a particular software. By managing our own repository, we can guarantee the stable operation of the system and its simple scaling, - said Kirill Dmitriyev, product manager of SelectOS. "In addition, we are constantly in contact with customers and are investigating trends in order to meet current market needs and fill the repository with the most current software - in accordance with the business tasks of users."
The operating system can be installed on both new and existing servers, including those outside the Selectel infrastructure. Selectel can help you migrate, integrate SelectOS with your IT infrastructure, and then scale.
SelectOS service follows the SLA model - customers can choose the most suitable degree of technical support for the business: from basic, available only during working hours, to a premium option in 24/7 format.
The company plans to further develop the operating system by expanding the repository of applications adapted for DPDK technology, introducing SPDK for virtual disks and an advanced backup system.
