Transition to the Thales Sentinel brand
The Sentinel LDK solution was originally developed by SafeNet, acquired in 2015 by Gemalto, which, in turn, was bought and absorbed by Thales in 2019. As a result of these transactions, products for monetizing software SafeNet began to be sold under the Thales Sentinel brand.
Sentinel LDK 7.10
What's new:
- Update licenses through the User Portal. A user can update their license in a hardware or software key in one click through the Customer Portal.
- Dockercontainers Support-. Added official support for Docker containers for software and hardware keys.
- Support for.NET Core. You can protect applications written using.NET Core. Support is added to both the Envelope utility and the Licensing API.
- Improvements in Sentinel EMS. Improved system search, enhanced reporting capabilities, and added additional capabilities to integrate Sentinel EMS with third-party systems.
- Enhanced capabilities of the Envelope utility for Linux. It is possible to disable encryption of certain partitions when protecting binary files, as well as expanded support for uClibc using the connection of additional modules.
- Updated dfcrypt utility for data encryption. With it, you can protect and license access to any content (databases, video, text).
- Ability to install the license manager without installing the driver. If you install the driver as of version 7.100, you can disable the driver installation if you only want to install the license manager.
- The documentation includes recommendations for protecting Java applications using Reflections APIs (Spring Framework) and applications written in Python.
2015: Sentinel Licensing Development Kit is available in the cloud
On February 18, 2015, Gemalto announced the availability of Sentinel Licensing Development Kit (LDK) development tools on LabVIEW Tools Network resources.
By combining Sentinel LDK development tools with NI (National Instruments) LabVIEW software, customers can easily license, monitor, manage, and track product usage. In addition, customers get the opportunity to protect their applications from reverse engineering and prevent code hacking or theft of intellectual property. By preventing unauthorized access to their software products, as well as preventing unauthorized distribution of their software , organizations can achieve maximum profitability. This increases the transparency of end-user licensing procedures and reduces the cost of licensing service technical support. In addition, this solution will help companies get rid of licensing procedures that require manual processing and will allow companies to easily introduce new products, introduce new functions.
Sentinel LDK development tools are a comprehensive, ready-to-use software monetization solution that provides support for the 32-bit version of Windows on x86 platforms and offers both hardware and software licensing technologies.
2014: Sentinel LDK Update
On May 27, 2014, the company SafeNet announced an updated version of ON Sentinel LDK (Licensing Development Kit).
Benefits of the updated Sentinel LDK Cloud Licensing:
- Statistics Collection - Helps software developers gain a better understanding of how their application is used to create even better products, propose a consumption pricing model, and implement diverse commercial models.
- Real-time update - Adapt to changing market dynamics and customer requirements in real time.
- User-centric - Helps independent software developers allow access to their software products from any machine and device.
The cloud licensing application provides the benefits of cloud-connected licenses for both locally installed software and cloud services based on a single platform.
The new solution provides pricing for the use of a product or service and allows you to create new sales models for locally installed applications, in which customers can pay as their software consumption increases.
The volume licensing mechanisms take into account the functions used and/or the amount of stored data, transaction data and machine time required to perform user tasks. The payment for using the Software is more consistent with the result.
2012: Sentinel License Development Kit released
In December 2012, the company SafeNet announced the release of the Sentinel License Development Kit (LDK) development environment, a next-generation platform for software protection and licensing software and sales management.
Sentinel LDK includes the recently released Sentinel HL advanced software protection platform and Sentinel EMS license management solution. Thus, for the first time, customers will SafeNet be able to simultaneously use intellectual property and software protection and a web-based license management solution.
Sentinel LDK is an end-to-end solution that helps software publishers protect their software products more effectively. The solution simplifies protection and licensing processes while maximizing end-user experience, and ultimately increases revenue from product sales.
"SafeNet continues to strive not only to offer best-in-class solutions that allow publishers and software developers to optimize current licensing and license management processes for their applications, but also to provide all the necessary tools to ensure that they can meet all the challenges and challenges they may face in the future," says Prakash Panjwani (Prakash Panjwani), Senior Vice President and General Manager, Software Protection and Licensing Solutions Development Division of the SafeNet. "For example, Sentinel LDK provides a platform for customers to develop solutions to protect and license products using virtualization and cloud services."
The main features of Sentinel LDK and the advantages of this platform for customers:
- Web-based license management - With full integration with Sentinel EMS, software publishers get all the tools they need to efficiently deliver licenses to end users and monitor and control software usage. With Sentinel EMS, publishers can offer end-users the ability to activate and manage their own licenses through the end-user portal. Sentinel EMS helps software vendors simplify and automate many licensing tasks while providing end users with additional capabilities and reducing support costs.
- The new generation of Sentinel Envelope technology: the introduction of the latest software security technologies and methods allows software publishers to protect their applications from reverse engineering, application hacking and intellectual property theft.
- Certificate-based licensing - The use of the certificate-based licensing mechanism enables the implementation of secure software licenses in plaintext format, making licensing easy to understand and support, both from the point of view of software publishers and from the point of view of end users.
- Automated License Transfer (Re-Host) - The Sentinel LDK platform is the industry's only licensing solution that allows end users to transfer their software licenses without having to contact the software developer's support team. This greatly improves user experience for end users and helps offload software developer support.
- User-Mode option for software licenses - Enables end-user installation of software with either user or administrator rights to help avoid user discontent and reduce support workload.
- The new generation of hardware-based software protection platform: Sentinel LDK is the first product in the SafeNet portfolio, which in standard delivery is complete with recently released products of the Sentinel HL smart card family of hardware keys. With exceptional performance and extensive memory management capabilities, Sentinel HL provides the most advanced hardware keys for software protection.
- Hardware Key Batch Programming: Allows software vendors to program multiple Sentinel HL keys at the same time, saving time and money.
