2022: Announcement of Artificial Intelligence Spinal Cord Stimulation System
In mid-October 2022, Nevro introduced Senza HFX iQ to the market's first spinal cord stimulation system using AI to educate patients.
The company developed Senza HFX iQ to address the variability of pain in different patients. This helps optimize and maintain long-term pain relief and improved quality of life. It uses the 10 kHz Nevro high-frequency therapeutic platform.
Senza HFX iQ includes an implantable pulse generator, HFX trial stimulator, charger and HFX application. The company plans to launch it with algorithms specifically designed to treat chronic back and leg pain. These algorithms cover nonsurgical back pain and pain diabetic neuropathy (PDN).
The digitally controlled system collects patient data and directs the user along an individual treatment route. Patients begin with a program that is most likely to provide pain relief based on the HFX algorithm. Senza HFX iQ recommends individual therapy adjustments based on patient data and directly adjusts pain relief. The system does this on the patient's smartphone without the need for a separate manual remote control.
By collecting patient and device data, the system allows patient-level treatment outcomes to be shared with treating and referring physicians. According to the developers, the connected digital environment around therapy allows you to update it in the future, add new features and capabilities.
At Nevro, it plans to begin a limited release of Senza HFX iQ in the United States before the end of November 2022. A wide entry into the American market is scheduled for early 2023. The company has also applied for regulator approval in Europe.[1]
