2022: Shaanxi Baojii Special Vehicles Lie Ying Falcon Demonstration

In August 2022, Chinese TV channel CCTV-7 aired a story about the use People's Liberation Army China of gyrocopters armed with guided anti-tank missiles in the (PLA). The footage shows a two-seater gyrocopter with four anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs), two on each side of the aircraft.

A device called Shaanxi Baojii Special Vehicles Lie Ying Falco is equipped with a sensor unit under the nose. According to observers of The Drive portal, it can be used to search for targets and target missiles, as well as for general surveillance and reconnaissance tasks. In addition, unarmed gyrocopters performing training exercises and tricks were caught on the video.

Throughout the plot, Chinese speech sounds behind the scenes. In a rough translation, the commentator says that armed gyrocopters are designed to support ground troops, track and destroy tanks. It is also noted that the developers have taken a number of measures to reduce noise from the device, and that training in piloting on them is not very difficult.

Shaanxi Baojii Special Vehicles Manufacturing Company, a Shaanxi-based manufacturer of military equipment, began producing gyrocopters for the Chinese army in August 2014, according to The Drive. According to available information, the machines are developed for special forces of the PLA.

Judging by the specifications of the gyrocopters, which are given on the manufacturer's website without specifying the name of the models, their maximum range and flight altitude reaches 400 km and 4500 m, and the marching speed is 100-120 km/h.

The advantages of gyrocopters include maneuverability, take-off with a very short run and the ability to land with a large approach angle on a small area. Due to its relatively small size, gyrocopters are easier to transport and easier to hide from prying eyes, for example, when conducting any secret intelligence operations.[1]
