2022: Drone announcement

In mid-March 2022, the Siberian School of Geosciences of the Irkutsk National Research Technical University (IRNITU) presented an unmanned aerial vehicle SibGIS UAS, designed to perform high-precision geophysical and geodetic work on the search for uranium deposits.

According to TASS the press service Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Priority 2030 program, specialists from the Siberian School of Geosciences IRNITU developed the software for the drone together with Geoinformational Technologies - Siberia LLC Software. allows the operator to significantly simplify interaction with the drone by automating profiles and assessment of the quality of shooting, as well as a number of other routine operations. The developers have listed the technologies used in the device:

A drone for the search for uranium has been created in Russia
  • magnetic aerial surveying;
  • gamma radiometry;
  • gamma spectrometry;
  • electromagnetic sensing in time and frequency regions;
  • multispectral aerial photography;
  • aerial lidar scanning.

According to the developers, the drone has increased strength, ease of assembly and disassembly procedures and is compatible with convenient charging stations.

In April 2022, SibGIS UAS is planned to be used in Buryatia and in the southeastern part of the Trans-Baikal Territory to search for hidden uranium deposits.

The uniqueness of SibGIS UAS lies in the fact that the entire unmanned complex of geological exploration, including software, was developed and created on the basis of IRNITU. All the most important elements and technologies of the UAV complex are original and import-independent. For example, carbon for drone parts was produced using vacuum infusion technology developed at the university, the press service of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science Priority 2030 program said in a statement[1]
