2023: Product Announcement
On September 21, 2023, Medtronic, one of the largest manufacturers of medical devices, announced the release of a wearable device for continuous blood glucose monitoring. A disposable product designed for people with diabetes is called Simplera.
The Simplera sensor attaches to the back of the patient's hand without requiring additional tape or adhesive to fix. The device integrates with an intelligent insulin pen that InPen provides personalized, real-time dosage recommendations for the drug, helping to simplify disease therapy.
According to Medtronic, the novelty is distinguished by a simple installation, and in size it is 50% more compact than the solutions of the previous generation. Simplera can be used by patients aged from two years. The accompanying mobile application is compatible with gadgets running Android and iOS. The program, among other things, recommends the optimal doses of insulin for eating, and also issues warnings in case of an increase in blood sugar levels. The sensor can be integrated with an automated insulin administration system.
The Simplera sensor has been marked CE (Conformité Européenne) - a special sign that certifies that the product meets the basic requirements of directives and harmonized standards of the European Union. The sensor is legal in Europe for use by adults and children. InPen, combined with the Simplera system, provides users with useful information that reduces guesswork and complex manual calculations and helps simplify diabetes therapy.
This latest solution will help make life easier for many people with diabetes, says Que Dallara, executive vice president of Medtronic Diabetes.[1] |
