Social media monitoring functionality

On March 29, 2017, Smart-Soft announced the inclusion of the functionality of monitoring social networks for student control by educational institutions in the Traffic Inspector network screen.

As access to the Internet, schoolchildren and adolescents often choose free Wi-Fi networks available in schools and anticafe. The traffic included in the tariff package ends quickly and students connect to an open Wi-Fi access point: free and fast. Sometimes this is the only way to update a personal page on a social network, send a message or view news in the community. It is these resources that help understand the range of Internet interests of adolescents.

The installation of a network screen within an open network will provide the school administration or anticafe with access to visitation statistics. Using the network screen, educational institutions can analyze the interests of students and obtain detailed statistics of their Internet interests.

The system provides detailed statistics of visits by period: per day, per week or month. Tops are automatically generated based on the number of visits. All necessary information for further analysis is available to the system administrator: page type, community or group name, URL.

Export tools in the form of detailed tables are provided to organize the received information.

The network screen allows you to understand which communities students visit, with whom they communicate and what discussions they are interested in. You can use the obtained information from analytics to prevent dangerous situations and to create strategic maps of the development of schoolchildren taking into account their interests.

Traffic Inspector with HTTPS Filtering

On March 14, 2017, Smart Software announced the release of the Traffic Inspector version with the ability to monitor encrypted HTTPS traffic.

The company announced the dedication of the Traffic Inspector update to IT journalist, programmer Chris Kaspersky (Nikolai Likhachev).

In order to analyze in detail the web pages visited, protected using the HTTPS protocol, on the last, March 14, 2017, version of the Traffic Inspector firewall, the developers integrated the decoder.

The filtering algorithm is man-in-the-middle (MITM). Each HTTPS page requested from the client computer using a public key is decrypted on the network screen side. Then, the filters installed on the network screen are applied to the decrypted content. The data is encrypted and the "cleared" resource is transmitted to the client computer side, where it is re-decrypted.

Traffic Inspector provides tools for filtering encrypted traffic:

  • adaptive filtering by various criteria: by URL, content type, site belonging to a specific category (an extensive list of possible types of information resources is already pre-installed), by row occurrence.
  • delegation of user groups with the possibility of using HTTP filters for secure HTTPS traffic.
  • Displays HTTPS resources in the Network Statistics window.
  • improved algorithms for exporting reports.

In this version, the functionality of the identification mechanism by SMS has been expanded. Now the web portal allows you to pass identification in the Unified Identification and Authentication System (ESIA). Traffic Inspector provides tools for blocking network attachments by MIME type.

Traffic Inspector with HTTPS filtering meets the requirements for firewalls of the FSTEC of Russia dated December 1, 2016.

Traffic Inspector is available for download.

Traffic Inspector

Traffic Inspector is a comprehensive Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista/2008 Internet access solution that provides certified user accounting, network protection, traffic and time savings through caching and managed blocking of banners and unwanted resources, extensible web statistics, channel load distribution, and control.

Traffic Inspector is suitable for small and medium-sized businesses, government agencies, schools and higher education institutions, hospitals, home networks, small Internet providers, hotels, Internet cafes, hot spots.

On the sidelines, the authorities have long been talking about the need for import substitution of IT products, and government agencies are strongly advised to abandon foreign software in order to avoid the leakage of important data due to the possible presence of a spy code in imported IT products. It is possible to fulfill the tasks set by the state on information security of state-owned enterprises quickly and financially, exercising control over foreign software, or rather over traffic, since the software itself does not carry danger, and the Internet channel through which confidential information leaks is dangerous. It is possible to solve the problem of controlling foreign software without changing anything in the government network by controlling all traffic at the user and server level using Traffic Inspector, a solution for organizing, controlling and protecting Internet access certified by the FSTEC of the Russian Federation.

Principle of operation

Organization of Internet access: Each user of the program is assigned a separate account with individual charging, statistics and a personal account on the web server. Users (or clients) can be grouped into groups with general billing or restrictions.

Connection Usage Control: The certified billing system records both all users and external connection channels to providers.

Block ads, sites and files: The filter system allows you to block annoying banners, animation, text blocks. Using a built-in proxy server allows you to prohibit sites, keyword resources, as well as various types of files.

Security and Antivirus: Traffic Inspector includes a network screen that protects the network from external attacks, as well as the access server itself from attacks from the inside, if necessary. The network activity analysis system will help block users in case of infection with network viruses. Specifically to protect traffic from malwareKaspersky , Gate Antivirus and Panda Gate Antivirus modules are implemented, which can be installed additionally both together and separately.

Channel Load Control: The program supports dynamic channel width control, which allows you to configure speed limits for clients and their groups, as well as specify priority traffic. It is possible to use different access channels, while the flexibility of the settings allows many options: divide user groups into channels, distribute the load depending on the time, direct the download of archives and updates through an economical channel, for example, through a satellite.

Cost Savings: Traffic Inspector offers a number of tools to minimize Internet costs: controlled caching of visited resources, blocking of advertising and unnecessary information, constant display of allocated and spent funds to the user, the possibility of group restrictions, detailed statistics and traffic control for each user with the ability to automatically block overspending.

Spam Filtering: The program's mail gateway serves as an additional layer of anti-spam protection for the internal mail server, supports black lists and RBL services.
