2023: Product Announcement
On May 23, 2023, it became known about the development of "smart" trousers that are able to warn their owner about an unbuttoned wide. According to the author of the project, development engineer Guy Dupont, this will help avoid awkward situations.
The inventor says that initially, the idea of creating smart pants was nothing more than a joke. One of the friends spoke about what would be good if the trousers could report an unbuttoned lightning bolt. But social media users embraced the idea enthusiastically, and Dupont decided to put the project into action.
According to HackaDay, the key components of smart pants are a Hall effect sensor, a strong magnet and an Espressif Systems ESP32 microcontroller with low power consumption, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support. The sensor is fixed at the bottom of the lightning, and the magnet is attached to the fastener. When these elements are next to each other, the system is triggered. If the lightning remains unbuttoned for a given time interval, the microcontroller generates a corresponding notification, which is sent via wireless communication to the user's smartphone.
But so far the proposed solution needs to be finalized. The fact is that the microcontroller located in the pocket and the Hall effect sensor do not have protection from moisture, which complicates the washing process: the components will first have to be removed and then installed in their previous places. In addition, due to the constant maintenance of wireless communication between the microcontroller and the smartphone, fast battery discharge can occur. Still, Dupont is already looking for interested investors to improve its solution and bring it to the commercial market. The estimated cost of the product has not been reported.[1]
