The Solitaire stent retriever uses a miniature catheter for gaining access to brain arteries, recovery of a blood-groove and removal of the clots of blood causing an acute ischemic stroke.
2019: Solitaire X exit
At the beginning of May, 2019 Medtronic announced release of the device for a revaskulyarization of Solitaire X and its first application at an acute ischemic stroke.
Around the world the stroke is the second most important cause of death which annually becomes the reason about 6 million people. It is also the third most important reason of disability. Highly effective stents for a revaskulyarization of the Solitaire family are used in the market since 2009 and allow to minimize stroke effects.
Solitaire X is a stent of fourth generation from the delivery optimized by a system which allows to increase efficiency, having saved at the same time technical advantages of the previous generations of Solitaire. For delivery of Solitaire X of all sizes of Medtronic provided a microcatheter 160 cm long of Phenom 21 Catheter.
The Solitaire X stent allows to recover a blood-groove by mechanical removal of blood clot at patients who had an acute ischemic stroke with occlusion of a large vessel. In combination with Phenom 21 microcatheter the Solitaire X stent reduces risk of complications thanks to smooth delivery of the stent to occlusions in disteel vessels with a diameter up to 2 mm.
Specialists note convenience of the new stent during the work with difficult anatomical structures. Doctor Reza Jahan, professor of a radiology and neurosurgery of the University of California, Los Angeles, where the new stent was for the first time used, noted that the Solitaire X 6x40 device in combination with a catheter of Phenom 21 provides smooth navigation and reduces the general time of carrying out transaction.
4 generations the Medtronic Neurovascular subsidiary company which is included into group on development of recovery methods of treatment of Restorative Therapies Group was engaged in development and production of the stent.[1]
2018: Solitaire Platinum demonstration
On November 16, 2018 to GAUZ "Interregional Kliniko-diagnostic Center" (Kazan) within an educational rate for doctors there went demonstration of the device for treatment of an acute ischemic stroke – the Solitaire Platinum stent retriever.
The Solitaire Platinum stent retriever is used for holding a procedure of recovery of a blood-groove at the patients who had an ischemic stroke, a modern hi-tech method of a tromboekstraktion. The stent retriever is used in vessels of a brain and provides reliable and safe extraction of blood clot, after the procedure recovery of blood supply happens instantly, claim in Medtronic.
According to the developer, Solitaire Platinum use considerably increases favorable clinical terminations, reduces mortality percentage and invalidizations, allows to achieve more steady recovery of the patient. Besides, the device is convenient for the surgeon as thanks to several rows of evenly distributed markers well it is visualized during a procedure of a tromboekstraktion.
"In MKDTs in 2009 performed operation on recovery of a cerebral blood-groove by a tromboekstraktion method using the stent retriever. Annually the clinic executes such 12-14 transactions. On November 16, 2018 we for the first time applied advanced model the stent retriever which allows to improve qualitatively results of recovery of a cerebral blood-groove at patients with an ischemic stroke". Mikhail Yuryevich Volodyukhin, PhDs in Medicine., manager of department of X-ray surgical methods of treatment of GAUZ "MKDTs" |
In Russia the stroke of a brain is on the second place among causes of death after a myocardial infarction. 450,000 people annually have a stroke. 85% of victims of a stroke die or become disabled people for the rest of life, and only 13-16% of patients completely recover. Only 8% of patients are restored to former full-fledged life after a stroke. The method of a tromboekstraktion is recommended by the international expert community as the most effective. Unlike other technologies, it allows to expand the term of assistance to patients with an acute ischemic stroke till 24 o'clock from the moment of emergence of the first symptoms of a disease, but is most effective within 6-8 hours. Tromboekstraktion allows to delete completely blood clot, such transactions reduce stroke mortality, after them patients are better recovered.
2017: Results of a research
At the international Conference on stroke problems (International Stroke Conference, ISC) which took place from February 22 to February 24, 2017 in Houston (the State of Texas, the USA) the Medtronic company provided results of the researches conducted by different organizations and which showed efficiency the Solitaire stent retriever.
In one of researches were estimated importance for patients and clinical results when using Solitaire and intravenous administration of the activator of a plazminogen. 64% from 984 patients were produced intravenous injection of the fabric activator of a plazminogen (IV tPA), and other patient entered the stent retriever.
The research showed that transfer of patients from one hospital in another very strongly slows down treatment and reduces chances of capacity to act of the patient after therapy. Patients to whom the bottle directing catheters were applied showed more good results of functional independence after treatment in comparison with people to whom disteel catheters were established.
The research under the name Swift-Prime also proved that treatment through Solitaire is cost-efficient in the long term and provides higher life expectancy in comparison with procedure IV tPA. Economy exceeds $23 thousand during all life of the patient.
According to the experts, by the beginning of 2017 from 695 thousand victims of an ischemic stroke of 240 thousand patients have indications for application the stent retriever. At the same time in 500 American hospitals 13 thousand such procedures are annually performed.[2]
