2020: Start of sales of Sony SR Display - the holographic screen for viewing 3D - content without points
In October, 2020 Sony began sales of the holographic screen for viewing 3D - content without points. Tracing gaze direction of the artist, the gadget can visualize before it result of work at once. Innovation received the name SR Display. Its cost is $5 thousand.
The device is equipped with the 15.6-inch LCD display with the resolution of 4K and also the high-speed sensor of tracking the movement of eyes and the user's provision at the screen.
One of layers of a panel is executed of microoptical lenses which separate the image on the screen into the right and left eye for creation of stereoscopic effect. It allows the person to see the hologram without putting on 3D - points or headsets of augmented reality.
At the same time, as it is specified in the message of the Japanese producer, for normal operation of the device rather powerful computer processing the volume picture is necessary. Requirements to the PC following: processor of the Core i7 level and video card RTX 2070.
SR Display already found application among the large companies. So, the auto giant Volkswagen claims that it detected "considerable usefulness and a set of applications" for the display in development process of the ideas and design. Sony Pictures Entertainment also used it during Ghostbusters shootings: Afterlife for preliminary visualization of scenes and viewing 3D models. It can be especially useful for movies with a large number of visual effects as allows directors to gain an impression about computer effects and 3D models from different foreshortenings.
Judging by the cost of the holographic display and requirements to computers for its work, the device is expected very narrow audience, first of all specialists in the field of computer graphics and special effects.[1]
