2022: Electric Vehicle Announcement
In May 2022 the Dutch , the company announced the production of a two-seater electric vehicle Squad Solar City Car on solar panels, which was in development for about three years. According to the developers, the machine was created in such a way as to withstand wear and tear during intensive operation. The light electric car corresponds to the category of vehicles EU L6e. Later, a more powerful version of the L7 category will be offered.
The car provides space for two passengers sitting nearby, and a compartment for storing things in the rear of the cabin. The car is equipped with three-point seat belts and a full protective structure in front and back. Tyres act as natural baffles, preventing damage to body parts.
The area of the Squad Solar City Car platform is only 2.4 square meters. which means that three such cars can fit in one parking space. In a number of EU countries, a car can be driven without a license from the age of 16. Squad is driven by two 2 kW rear wheel engines (4 kW total), which are powered by four 1.6 kWh replaceable lithium-ion batteries. According to Squad Mobility, the roof solar panel provides a range of up to 20 km on sunny days.
In addition, a 100 km range is provided by replaceable batteries. The maximum speed is 45 km/h (28 mph). The batteries can be replaced when the vehicle requires rapid recharging. Various parameters such as charge status and battery health, maximum discharge rate, cell temperature, and misuse indicators such as water damage or excessive G-forces are monitored and available to the user.
The company will offer fleet operators an intelligent station for charging and replacing backup batteries. Other charging options include charging from a conventional outlet and charging with direct current directly from on-site solar panels.
Combining low capital and operating costs with remote diagnostics, Squad provides basic vehicle data such as operating conditions, charge level, tyre pressure, location, etc., throughout use for efficient fleet management.
The pre-order price is €6 250 (about US $6 525) before taxes for the most basic configuration and €9 300 (US $9 700) for the most equipped Signature Edition. Refundable booking fees range from €50 to €5 000. Squad offers pre-orders with zero down payment for interested buyers outside of Europe, but it has not yet decided which global markets to enter.
Squad plans to start production in 2023, with the first deliveries to the home market in the Netherlands, and then moving east and south of Europe. The company also plans to offer Squad for rental and/or subscription with a target rental price of $100 per month, as well as for car sharing.[1]
